On Saturday, October 12, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge became the first person ever to run a marathon in under two hours, a staggering achievement in athletics and human performance. Dr. Michael Joyner, an exercise physiologist at the Mayo Clinic, first predicted it might be possible in a paper he wrote in 1991. WIRED's Robbie Gonzalez has been

Marathoners - like swimmers - don-t get enough credit for how difficult their sport is. Their so physically & mentally strong that they make it look easy; because most people can run (& swim, they don-t realize how fast the athletes are moving or (when you reach Olympic/professional level) how intricate the sport is & the strategy needed to win. It-s an incredible thing to be able to watch & appreciate athletes like these.

People consider the shoe controversial because of how much better it is. Now, if everyone has access to the shoe I think it is fine. But they don-t. Some athletes have signed with adidas or puma or some other brand and their shoes aren-t as good as Nike-s. But that-s the brand-s problem, they need to step up their game.

Imagine if the current NBA players wore shoes without advanced tech like MJ's Jordan 1. For those of you who have them AJ1 and also have modern bb shoes like the 34s or other sig shoes like LBJ's or even -just- the Hyperdunks, you would know and relate to what I mean.

I cant believe they talked about shoes for the entirety of this -analysis-. This video should've focused a bit more on the part of him training almost everyday of the week, diets, etc. But nope, they talked about his shoes giving an absolute fame breaking edge.

So you mean to tell me if I give my grandma these shoes, she-ll beat me in a race? I don-t believe the shoe crap. Unless this shoe has fuel and a little engine, it does not make sense. The material can be better, but it comes down to the runner, period.

i respect what he says at 0: 17, but not everyone has the privilege of training in the same conditions as him. high elevation training and tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on the science to help him improve definitely helps.

This dude is an idiot. This record just sets a time that he ran, despite what happened around him he ran it without any help. Any guy that wants to challenge the time obviously will have the same help around him. Good luck to them.

For someone who is interested in the sociology and sports psychology, I wonder if the pandemic effectively set a barrier for Kipchoge and that the frontier of marathon running has met a quite substantial setback.

I think that if they don't change the rules regarding Pacers, then we won't see a sub 2 hour marathon until there's a race where atleast 3 guys hit sub 2 hours in the same race.

You say controversial shoes then go ahead and put on those shoes and try to do what he did. If a white guy had broke such a record you could be praising the muscles. such a racist
