Genuine question: when he asks what the difference between private and accredited zoos are, do you think the difference is big enough to be justified or is it just a way for us to feel better in keeping wild animals in captivity for profit? Of course it-s not a one-to-one equivalence, and yes, the animals in -proper- zoos have a better environment, aren-t being inbred for private sale etc but aren-t they ultimately still wild animals being kept in captivity for the entertainment and profit of people? What are the benefits for the animals themselves to be in a zoo? I would legitimately like to know. I-m not a vegan PETA nut but right now I just can-t bring myself to see how animals in commercial zoos are justifiable or really how people see it as entertaining. why do humans have to be able to directly see or hold/touch something to feel close to it, why isn-t knowing it is healthy and happy where it should be good enough? Shouldn-t our focus be on preserving natural habitat through land preservation and mitigating climate change as well as combating poaching be the things we should be putting all our effort toward? Would like to hear people-s thoughts and opinions

I still don't understand why crossbreeding subspecies is bad? That's how new species are formed that's how new species develop adaptations for new environments there used to be big cats all over the world why can't we create new environments? Why do we treat evolution like its something that ended in the Pleistocene? Also, AZA zoos don't have SSP for Bengal tigers so the spaying and neutering (genetic culling) of American tigers would spell the extinction of the Bengal tiger in America. Can we instead get a genetic census and health screen all the tigers before we make spay and neuter decisions? This would be a huge waste of tiger just to assume they are all crossbred and even then he used the example of mix-breed dogs I thought we have learned genetic diversity is more important than purity we have seen how detrimental it is for dogs. It would be such a waste in a time where every tiger counts.

this guy (big cat proffesional) behind this desk talking, knows nothing. i guarentee you put a bunch of captive tigers in a santuary with a sufficient amount of variable prey = ie boars, buffalo, deer, moose, goats, ect, ect they will get to the point of being hungry they will hunt to survive. but if humans can teach tigers to hunt before reintroducing to the wild or sancuaries it would spark their internal prey drive and benefit them greatly. BUT THEY ARE NOT WORTHLESS TO THE CONSERVATION OF ENDANGERED TIGER SPECIES QIUTE THE CONTRARY. IF ANYTHING IS WORTHLESS ITS THIS FOOLS CAPACITY TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.

How about mentioning the TIGERS THAT WERE KILLED shot in the head by joe exotic. Because the hide is worth more without the tiger in it he felt he had to remove as many tigers as possible and didn't have enough people who wanted tigers so he executed some say 60 others say way more than that. I just love how some people think just because some animals belong in the wild they think they can just be set free and live happily ever after. Except there's a 100 percent chance they will be dead in the wild within a few short months if not a couple weeks.

I don't understand why we allow private ownership of these animals. It's so dangerous to have them in private zoos between the possibilities of escape, abuse, and, as we've seen in Tiger King, shameless exploitation by everyone involved with the animals. The real solution to this problem isn't one many people are willing to admit to, but once this virus gets under control, every one of these big cats should be seized by the Fish & Wildlife Service, offered to public zoos worldwide for free, and the rest of them euthanized.

Okay let me get on something straight, let's suppose that a tiger gets wounded in the 'wild' nature, because of the Hunter. Furthermore the tiger will be rescued by pet centers, in-fact the tiger will be put in Zoo or captivity, some tigers are rescued by good people so think about it, i could agree while saying that they should be released in nature, but what if it happens again and non-stop? The best thing would be if the wild didnt had hunters, and that's it, period.

The conditions in many breeding facilities are cruel. Animals are crammed together-which is very stressful for solitary animals like tigers. Some if them are no better than puppy mills. And he is absolutely right about too much exposure to humans. Here in the US, there is little federal regulation of the petting zoo industry. They should be shut down at the federal level.

It seems to me that instead of -why captive tigers can't be reintroduced to the wild-, the title should have been -why is so difficult to reintroduce tigers to the wild-. It doesn't seeem like an impossible task to do it, it's just way more complicated than we think, since it's not just letting them loose.

Every time when I see these magnificent animals in captivity, I felt extremely sorry and sad for them.
I have seen these animals roaming in the Jungles of the Tarai region of the U. P, India, and can see in my imagination their beauty and grandeur whenever I wish to relive with them.
