I dont know and i dont care about how much these guys know about the lore. Because, to be fair, you read the toilet paper tolkien used and you will find more changes in his lore. But, the writers and producers must deliver. We will see, but so far, the series is nothing special (although cgi look good and expensive.
Ps: im not a purist, i dont expect a carbon copy of the books. I understand that a tv format needs proper adaptation to succeed. And yet, the series is mediocre (and i had zero expectations pre-release.

They seem like nice people. But the writers have made their characters so boring. And the dialogues are so awful. I fell asleep quite a number of times in about 4 of the 5 episodes.
