this was the nagasaki bomb, much more sophisticated than the first, hiroshims bomb. they were less sure this one would go together, or explode at the wrong moment.
and the result was, stalin built a 50 megaton bomb, air explosion so the world knew. and the vast expense of the manhattan project achieved nothing but stasis.

I usually avoid vids about all the ways humans destroy each other, but the first 20 seconds of this actually caught my interest enough that I kept watching despite the topic. Mr Wellerstein's descriptions and explanations are so interesting. And the last thing he said has given me new insight into the way some people view war. Great guest and video, thank you

2: 10 tamper plug insertion shown both in the movie and real life. Why did the movie switch to showing men doing it by hand and not like it was really done with a chain hoist? The tamper plug weighed 105 pounds and would be almost impossible to do by hand as shown.

The way he glossed over the severity of the human consequence of Hiroshima and Nagasaki almost seemed as though it was inconsequential. It's arguably one of the most horrifying events in human history, the dropping of two atomic bombs on innocent civilians.

What determines the size of the test bomb? Wouldnt it have been easier and safe to orive the concept with something smaller? Say 1/4 size?
