Professor of marine biology Dr. Kory Evans answers your questions about fish from Twitter. Why are orcas attacking boats What is the fastest creature in the sea How do octopi change colors to match their environment Are jellyfish immortal Answers to these questions and many more awaitit's Marine Biology Support. The reason why I'm jealous of anglerfish is because the male harpoons the female with his organ then combines his body with hers so he does nothing his entire life except mate with what he thinks of as the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. Her veins literally connect with his and he just becomes testicles at that point.

There is some controversy and debate surrounding the maximum lifespan of bowhead whales (Greenlandic whales. While it's true that some estimates have suggested lifespans of up to 200 years or even more, it's not scientifically confirmed that bowhead whales can live up to 600 years.
The estimate of around 200 years is based on research involving techniques like analyzing eye tissue and other biological markers to determine the age of individual whales. However, it's important to note that estimating the age of long-lived animals like whales can be challenging and subject to some uncertainty.
While there may be claims or stories suggesting exceptionally long lifespans for bowhead whales, scientific evidence supporting such claims is currently lacking. It's always essential to rely on peer-reviewed scientific research for accurate information about the biology and behavior of species like whales.

This was an excellent and interesting video.
My only qualm was Dr. Evans made a small (common) mistake with the electrical defense comment. 600V is a voltage, not a current. Current is measured in amps. They're two different properties of electricity. But it's not a major mistake.

I’m two minutes in and my mind has already been blown and I will never look at white sandy beaches the same way ever again.
[Five minutes in and NOPE. The ocean can keep its secrets. I’m kidding. I hope they make more marine biology support videos]

I wish these super smart people could understand the basics of reality. NO, the jellyfish is not immortal.
very oversimplified reason; 2nd law of thermodynamics and ATP. Please Mr Science man, spread the word in your world, NOTHING is immortal.

I couldn’t have watched a couple hours of this guy answering questions. He explained enough without going overboard or racing through and not really answering. Super interesting.

Great video, very informative. Lots of interesting topics covered here. If I ever go back to a beach with white sand I'll never think about it the same way

Am I the only one who is irritated by the fact this marine biologist keeps on saying fishes instead of fish. The plural for is fish and not fishes

I thought the Barracuda was the fastest fish Thats interesting that the sailfish would be slower as I would think it has more drag in the water.

Any one else not know that the plural of fish was fishes I thought it was one of those situations like the plural of deer is deer.

Another reason conch shells get a hole or slot near the top is people punching through (usually with a screwdriver) to pull out the meat!

This professor is finding a way how to replicate the jellyfish immortal gene and thus become the first immortal professor
