Over my 40-year professional life, I have been in larger and more-grounded enterprises. except once. I did a 6-month stint at a start-up, and I am absolutely not cut out for that kind of life. It was a perpetual nervous breakdown. Michael's characterization of urgency and chaos 100% fit that company.
However, based on real-world experience, his perception of HR is skewed. HR exists for one and only one reason: to protect the company's ss - nothing else. If you think HR is ever on the side of the worker, you're delusional.

KPI stands for Key Performance Indicator. A business always operates in pursuit of goals and/or objectives, and the Key Performance Indicators are a way of measuring whether the business is effectively meeting (or at least effectively approaching) those goals or objectives. Businesses with different goals or objectives have, obviously, different KPI's, but there are universal standards. These metrics are quantifiable, and therefore make sense to be presented in a document or sheet (or a dashboard, in the digital world) with grading or scoring.

Why get a guy to ask questions if he won't answer them
How do you find the right people. long-winded corpo schpiel about commitment to the mission. Yeurgh.
Notice he didn't mention anything about good hiring practices or good pay.
What does a CEO even do blah blah blah, mission. Nothing to do with, I dunno, negotiations or actual leadership or how one sets company goals or even the truth about being a shill for the monied shareholders

CEOs are not your teammates nor shotcaller, they are a mouth for the larger (public) stakeholders. No one in the workforce would notice if there wasn't a CEO.
Only thing I see when a CEO opens their mouth is like a less orange DJT.
Also CEOs and CFOs should be required to accept a minimum wage salary if they have employees that are paid minimum wage. See how quickly that number goes north of $25 an hour.

I've worked for many startups and the weak link was always the CEO because they didn't understand the technical side of the business enough to make good decisions. In some cases, the CTO tried to run the company, but they didn't have the business skills to pull it off. I never experienced a situation where the engineers failed on their own accord.

Hating on a CEO not doing anything when you are not fit to lead and run a company or even invest all the capital and inheriting all the risk is a crazy mentality, then again we will always need people that can't see the bigger picture and just clock in and clock out. Always mind-boggling how people can be so short-sighted.

I've been working for 50 years and for many companies. This guy is idealistic in most of his responses. All employers that I've worked for DO NOT operate as he indicates. Most of them are strictly about personal gains and how much money they can get their greedy hands on.

The very last person one should trust within a company is the CEO. To a CEO, everything below them is replaceable/disposable. But do not take my word for it. Instead, apply for a job and experience it first hand.

The term high tech (which is a circular definition) was created by those guys on Sand Hill Rd, Palo Alto. Or so it was said though supposably the term was first written by a German reporter.

The presented by sponsor: JustWorks is a horrendous company. Their software is a joke and easy to hack, insecure, etc. Folks there seem to not care or are not competent. Buyer beware!
reply

FFS, really We're going to have a CEO try to justify their existence All we're seeing is a BS artist not actually answer the questions being asked. ZERO stars, do not recommend.

True that one wrong senior hire at a startup can literally kill momentum for months (if not for good. It trickles down to the rest of the team & morale. The stakes are unreal

I came to comment that he and all CEOs makes to much money and are glorified nepotism babies. Tax the rich and take our country back.
