If you dont know anything about the Mahabharata or the characters, I believe you will focus on the accent more.
Its not that the accent is hard to understand, its simply you dont know the text, you dont know the story, so youre trying to get to know something for the first time-- you need scenery, you need to know the characters, know major stories like how Yudhishthria bet on everything, even himself, then his wife. You need to know about how Arjuna cries out to Krishna in the middle of the battlefield. You need to know the stories contained into this poem.
You cant just dive into it without certain familiar things, people, and scenarios

if you have the capability it helps to clarify the audio by turning down the bass and equalizing in other ways available. The issue is that when he recorded he had his mouth far too close to the microphone - clearly evidenced by how it hisses so loudly when he pronounces 's' or 'sh' and how it pops when he pronounces hard consonants like 'p' 'd' or 't'. I would suggest that whoever made this recording or whoever uploaded it make some major changes.

tis a shame I wish to hear it and grasp its content but this is a combination of a poor mic and heavy accent. It was worth a shot but perhaps someone whom is adequate with the English tongue is needed here.
