I love parallel/alternate reality stories like this one. Jeff Van Der Meers' GOAT is a particular favorite of mine written about this theme.
I remember a great Creepypasta about a gent who somehow manages to connect his computer to the internet of an alternate reality, where fascists rule that Earth. He is horrified by what he learns from his surfing. He is then given a reason to become totally terrified.
