WALDEN by Henry David Thoreau - FULL AudioBook - Part 1 (of 2) Greatest AudioBooks Forgive me people, but I must say i was greatly disappointed by this work. Unknowingly, I expected a profoundly detailed biography (journal) on the actual day to day experience of living under ones own hand and the beauty and cruelty of nature as viewed by someone without distraction. I am disappointed by all of the metaphorical and rhetorical commentary on the condition of mankind and the folly of our entire structure of society. Making farmers out to be nothing but mindless, hypocritical, food-bearing and toiling automatons for example. It might surprise mister Thoreau that many such people take great pride in what they do and can in fact also think about and create a great many other things. I do not find his treatise at all enjoyable and frankly I find he often goes too unnecessarily far in over-complicating what should have been a straight forward observation of what is. To me, he wasted much of a lifetime opportunity pondering the very things he was trying to escape and in the process did a disservice to the reader.

Henry David Thoreau is one of Don Henley's The Eagles favorite authors. Don said his readings helped him cope during a difficult period losing his father.
This author is off his rocker and it explains why Don Henley turned into such an oddball. Seems like Henley has child like faith in every word the author writes.
It's a shame Don had to use such a secular approach to healing when he should have gone to the living word of God for comfort during the passing of his father.

But I can’t help thinking about how we, as a society, NEED farmers, shop owners and other people he scoffs at. The life of a hermit to me is very appealing but I don’t like how he says others that work are slaves. I think the problem is consumerism where marketing is convincing us we need a bunch of crap that ultimately clutters up our lives and gets in the way of a direct experience of life. I realize he is an individualist but imo, we also need community.

This is the best version of this book/audiobook. I can’t believe I’m getting this for free. I think about what a joy and necessity it is to have something like audible for me. This feels so important and the fact that I’m absorbing this rn at such a comforting read is such a blessing.

I was required to read this in high school. i had awesome teachers. Thanks so much, Thoreau, Orwell, Dickens, Niche, Einstien. thank God for Decent American or others in our teaching system who believe in our American dream. Dump the crooks, Weinstein etc.

I have never yet met a man who was awake. Thoreau must have sleep-walked through life.
I expected more than that when I opened this reading. Maybe he has spent too much time reading the thoughts of others.

It's actually THUR-oh. I'm sure HDT didn't talk as bland and whimpy as this guy. Nice to have this; it's just misrepresentative. Sounds like this guy hasn't spent a day outside a library or laboratory.

honestly, why is this book good to some people. It is just rambly to me. Very unfocused with a few good points every chapter. Literally sounds like my woke Uncle just saying shit about being woke.

There are a lot of things a person can be doing right now. By estimation, 97/100 people aren't listening to this. Here is to the wisdom of the 3% from listening to this.

Just by the way, the landscape around Walden Pond looks nothing like this picture. When you visit, don't expect mountains.

Fun Fact: Henry David Thoreau was outsourcing his laundry to his mother the entire time he was writing about self sufficiency.

Okay literally page 14-15 is 54 minutes in I thought I was going crazy but struggling but he fr just has a lot to say

Felt like I was being talked AT throughout the reading. Hoping it was the reader's interpretion rather than Thoreau's.

Great literature. Shout out to Tim Ferriss a great guy, all the people he brought here as well and all vagabonding souls!

Upon hearing chapter 3 of this audio book I am certain Henry David Thoreau Hates me for doing so.

It would be nice if you had an accurate picture. I live nearby, that is not Walden pond as pictured.

This cover photo is not Walden. We have no mountains there, only steep hills.
