Sherlock Holmes: A Study in Scarlet - FULL AudioBook _I’m not going to tell you much more of the case, Doctor. You know a conjurer gets no credit when once he has explained his trick and if I show you too much of my method of working, you will surely come to the conclusion that I am a very ordinary individual after all. _
_I shall never do that, I answered; you have brought detection as near an exact science as it ever will be brought in this world. _
_My companion flushed up with pleasure at my words, and the earnest way in which I uttered them. I had already observed that he was as sensitive to flattery on the score of his art as any girl could be of her beauty. _
_I’ll tell you one other thing, he said. _
This is just like straight up flirting

Im sick today and I can’t read cuz it makes my head hurts. I have read the complete collection multiple times and this is one I haven’t read in a while. Although the reader reads a little slowly, I enjoyed this. Sherlock Holmes is an extremely clever and I enjoy applying his methods to every day life. It really works. To those who like Sherlock Holmes and this style of character, I strongly suggest Alexander Dumas’s work. Especially the Count of Monte Cristo. To those who prefer adventure to intriguing characters, I suggest The Three Musketeers and the sequels.

He only mentioned one ring with a Masonic device. That fact that the two dead men were Masons would have played a much larger roll if they knew that they were being hunted. Masons have never had much trouble screwing people over and getting away with it with the help of their Masonic brothers. Contact the local lodge, tell a few lies about the man tracking them, and in short order he would be located. But it was a good story in spite of that.

Conan Doyle plays fast and loose with facts, history and geography in this book. There is no dead, silent desert that extends 1500 miles across the United States where there is no living thing. That's ridiculous. When he wrote the book, he had never even visited the US. And the tale he tells about the Mormons is factually incorrect on many levels. The story ends unhappily alas, so it isn't very satisfying.

I just found this awesome love of reading in august of 2017. For christmas this year my family asked what I wanted for a gift. Naturally I responded with Books and money and to my surprise I got both! One of the many books I recieved was The Sherlock Holmes Collection it has all the books in one book. My goal is to read 1 book of the series each month. Thank you for this!

Book Two is the better part of the story and is a real story in itself. The story of Lucy and the Mormons of the 1860s is perfectly comparable to the story of women in Texas today and the Abbottites, determined to control them. Oddly prescient. Good story. Conan Doyle should have devoted more time to telling full stories instead of just formulaic detective reports.

I also personally hate all the movies, because they cannot compare to any of the books. They cannot portray Holmes as he really is, which is an indescribable character. And also I don’t really get people who haven’t read the books endless admiration for the hound of the Baskerville. If you ask me it’s really the worst story that there is.

I have Marfan syndrome. When I first read _A Study in Scarlet_, I was 17 or 18 and had a 4. 8 cm thoracic aortic aneurysm. I had this constant throbbing noise in my head that the doctors said couldn't possibly have been my aneurysm. Then I read this book, and Watson precisely describes the sound I'd hear.

I've read some sherlock stories before but i did weeks ago watch the series and i liked it so i had this idea to listen to someone reading while i am scrolling the book on my laptop and it seems to be a good idea till now

I cannot believe more than half of book 2 was just to give backstory for the murderer, I literally didn't make the connection until perhaps the last minute of book 2 chapter 5. What an amazingly written story!

the voices for each character give so much personality to each of them. It’s so different to listen along to this than read it. I’m nearly halfway through and I’m glad I’m listening along! :-)

I'm about half way through this audiobook. Am I the only one who is wondering at this point what the H all this Mormon stuff has to do with the other part of the story. and with Sherlock Holmes LOL

does anyone know where i can find the cover of this book but then of all the collections of the Sherlock Holmes novels I can't quite find it on the internet.

Obviously I know older books have the capacity to be good. But I got so uncharacteristically invested in this Mormon Utah stuff. So tense so interesting.

It’s so weird having to come back to hear this book again after reading the cthulhu casebooks, an interesting spin on both lovecraft and Sherlock holmes

David Clark. Great oratory and that includes acting skills. Thank you for your fine work. Capital! Capital!
