Senior Citizens Guess The Price Of College Textbooks

Can Debbie and Mo correctly guess the price of college textbooks today? CuriousOrigins: It takes some shopping around and settling for international or old editions of the textbooks. but I got away with 170-220 most semesters. (In the U. S) But a few classes required you to buy access to the textbook website to do assignments. (which were turned in on that website making it not optional) that killed my budget every semester that happened usually 100/semester for access without the textbook.
I spent about 650 the one semester I couldnt shop around, because I didnt have the time.
Spring semester textbooks have better used options so I recommend taking expensive textbook courses like math, science etc in the Spring, the downside is that it makes it hard to sell them used. So you have to weigh that. And of course Math and Science courses have different problem sets between editions so that means lots of time copying your problems out of the current version of the textbook in the library. But the text is usually exactly the same.
Good luck current college students. Remember to search by ISBN.

The price of textbooks isnt the worst thing about colleges currently. Its the price of attending and classes. Prices have skyrocketed (accounting for inflation) over the past 20 years and at the same time the value of a degree has gone down. And to add insult to injury half of the classes you will take will have online homework through McGraw Hill where you need an access code that is 200 alone, which expires after 6 months to a year of use.

YOU ARE TELLING ME THAT EVERYONE LOVES THE US BUT THEY CHARGE 1000 DOLLARS FOR FREAKING TEXTBOOKS? never in a million years would I want to live their I'm sorry but no chance of equal education no matter your class that should be illegal that is Robber or theft period.

But the viscous flow I guarentee has an agreement with the college where they only sell it as an 1 year ebook subscription bundled with a broken homework system on a shoddy website for 100 dollars. Its McGraw hill that's what I see with my textbooks from them.

There is absolutely no reason text books should cost more than 100. Its a scam. Then a new edition comes out every other year so you cant sell your old ones. Post secondary is becoming one of the biggest money grabs of this generation.
reply

Yep, it's another corporate racket so that you have to go into debt or be rich to afford it. Not only that then you can't sell the books back because they use another edition.

Universities in the US are a racket.
I wouldnt advise anyone to go unless it was a necessary degree in a field that has high income career paths. (Law, Medicine, stem)

The boomerest thing of this video is that they are taking it as a competition on who can guess the price when the main point is to underline the insane price of the books.

In Russia we students get all the books free from libraries. Even if there is a need to buy one most of the time we are offered an e-version or print outs or scans from it.

Anatomy and figure drawing professor. Anatomy doesnt change, buy this book from the 50s and not a 2019 edition. He actually loved my book because he said the print was nicer
