One person, one vote. Period. Everybody's vote is weighted equally no matter where you happen to live. What is remotely controversial about this concept? All the supposed ills of a popular vote system are ALREADY present in our current system. Only a few states actually matter in any given election, candidates pour all of their time and money into those states ignoring the rest of the country, as such their is a defacto tyranny of the minority that takes place. We need to shift focus from geography to actual people. If a city like NYC winds up getting more attention under this new system. GOOD. Politicians should go where Americans are. lots of them too! I fail to see how going where voters are is a problem? Why is it any more noble for my needs as a big city dweller to be ignored over some farmer in Ohio? What of that injustice? The electoral college is the epitome of the type of social engineering designed to pick winners and losers that conservatives say they hate.

Honestly this is a very one sided part of the argument. If there wasn t the electoral college NY and CA would literally control all the 50 states and presidential candidates would only want to satisfy and campaign in those two places. Basically, without the electoral college the US as it stands wouldn t literally just not make sense. Also, the US is not supposed to be a democracy, it s a Constitutional Republic. It s why women, for example, got the right to vote and dozens of other rights way before a majority of the population, let alone a majority of women, were in favour of it!

It s like she is saying that it s a bad thing that small states benefited from the electoral college. When really if it wasn t for the electoral college states like California, Illinois, and New York would choose the president everytime. And every state has different needs, wants, and ideologies. Unless you have a way for small states with small population to be taken in consideration then it s not going to work. You would just have those small states fighting for their own states right or requesting/demanding to not be apart of the US.

If you can't understand why the electoral college is essential for fair elections then you need to go back to school. If we got rid of the electoral college, very few of us would actually have a say. Places like California and New York would decide how the rest of us live. Considering the horrible condition these states are in, are you really hopeful? We aren't a democracy either, we are a constitutional republic. You'd have to be an absolute idiot to believe this crap you are spewing Buzzfeed. Put down the koolaid.

So, Buzzfeed believes they are more intelligent and wise than the founding fathers. Okay. Lets just let N. Y. and L. A choose the next president for the next hundred years. Lols. How many times does it have to be explained? Demographics change, districts change, but majority rule was NEVER a thing in this country. For good reason. You guys are so confused. Its not a good look. And the sad thing is you are somehow convincing the nitwits that what you are spouting is legit.

No electoral college is very needed. New York and California would control the whole country. Which wouldn t represent farmers or people from southern states. It s very terrible. But people in California, would screw this country just like they screwed their own crappy state. Our country would be terrible without electoral college.

Got to love how republicans admit that their policy's are unpopular with the majority of Americans so they use the electoral college to defend themselves. If you really believe your ideas are the right ideas then fight for every vote regardless of where they are. The electoral college is affirmative action for republicans

Everything has a purpose. Perhaps there is more behind the reason that there is an electoral college from what we may have known from see the surface of the issue. We have to understand the circumstances to why the establish an electoral system and recognize both issue and benefits that arrive with this particular policy.

I haven't seen the video yet but I can tell from the comments that it's like many (if not all) of BuzzFeeds other political videos. Biased, one sided and focused on convincing you why they are right and everyone else is wrong. I'm sorry but you might as well just say believe us, we know what we're talking about.

The electoral college levels the playing field for all states. That way the entire country isn't dictated by California, New York, Texas, and Florida. You commie bastards don't like it because you want California to run/ruin the whole country and hate that the electoral college takes away some of your power.
