At last, a real review of the movie. Thank you for that!
I wrote down a few thing also that I needed to get of my chest:
Spoilers ahead:
Well to be honest I didn't really like the movie. I do agree with that the casting and acting was great, with Lex Luthor as the highlight. For me the most important part in any movie is the story, and the story here was very weak imho. When the movie started I felt like somehow I was in the second act already. Many things felt like forced and rushed, like for example the video from his biological parents that it was displayed because it soothes Superman and actually wanted to show us the reason why Superman is who he is and does he does. 5 minutes later he faces a personality crisis, because in the full version of the video, he actually founds out that his purpose has been to conquer earth! It just seems like lazy writing as you already mentioned with the examples of Lois and Jimmy. And also, where exactly was the movie building up to There was no crescendo or big revelation at the end of the movie. I was not eager to see where the story goes, even for a second. And let's be honest, when it was revealed that the Ultra man was his clone how many of you were really surprised There are also too many jokes just destroy the mood in many cases. Jokes in an action movie is a tool and if you are not careful, you get Thor: Love and Thunder.
The battles while visually pleasing, were nothing special. Superman was either a punching bag or on the rescue. And how he could win Krypto destroyed the cameras and then it was like he was playing it easy. Yeah I get it that it was an indirect fight between Lex and Superman, but normally after being so much beat up and so many times Superman would take a minute to think and strategize. It just felt out of character for me. Hawk Girl had no actual contribution to the movie, other than squeaking all the time. Seriously, I felt more the urge to throw her a mouse to eat, than to watch her fight. Poor Shayera.
To summarize for me it felt more that a Superman series episode (and a boring one also, rather than a movie to watch in IMAX. I really don't understand the hype around the movie and definitely don't understand the statements that this is the best Superman movie in a long time.

I loved most of all the characters and they were all very good. And of course, I really liked the kind of Superman they're going for.
I do have like two complaints though.
1) There was way too much going on for a two hour movie. You have the Hammer of Boravia which turns out to be nothing, Lois and Clark are fighting, there's a kaiju, then the space parents message being unearthed which basically ceases to matter for half the movie, Superman is suddenly unpopular but we barely see it, a very long sequence in the pocket dimension, there's still a war running in the background, and then the world starts tearing in half, there's still a war, and now Superman is in a 1v2 bossfight, and they still need to go get Lex. And also Jimmy was exposing Lex the whole time. And yeah, there's a lot.
Like, it works and the plot holds together, but I feel a lot was sacrificed to get this much in. Like, the plotline about the message from Krypton is very unexplored. It was there but nothing happened. We also got almost nothing with Clark, and not a whole lot with his parents. I think a longer movie with a lot more trimming with more focus on just establishing who these people are would have been better.
2) The ending was not very cathartic for me. Superman beats the Engineer, then he beats Ultraman. Then they go after Lex but at this point, Lex feels like cleanup duty. For the main villain, it felt off when their final confrontation was not a major event but just tying up loose strings. Part of this is because of the power difference and the fact that Lex cannot fight Superman head on at all, but part of it I think was just. well. not great. (Like, off the top of my head, if the world is tearing itself in half and Superman has to get to Lex to stop it, I think the final fight may have worked better if it ended up being Superman fighting THROUGH Ultraman to get to Lex and save everyone. He's Superman, he has to save everyone)
But overall, solid movie and I did enjoy it.

tbh i was a bit disappointed, there was a plot but no story, the characters are super not fleshed out, we only got very surface level characterizations of the characters, _not excluding superman himself_. Really, I dont really quite get the character arc of Superman.

definitely agree with you about Krypto rag dolling Lex Luthor, and i can definitely see what your saying with Eve, and particularly the scene where she means Jimmy was incredibly boring to me and it felt like the movie slowed down so much. I do disagree about the pacing though, it seemed fine to me for the most part (again, pretty much just the scene with Eve and Jimmy. The only other complaint that i have is that Lex's character seemed closer to the Riddler with the way he valued intelligence over anything else. Being mostly familiar with the Lex from the animated series, i would characterize him as someone who has worked hard in every way (both in mind AND body) to get ahead and become the greatest version of a human that anyone could be, which makes it all the more devastating when Superman shows up and is able to best him at everything. Other than that, I loved the movie, it felt like an episode of Superman the animated series yet still like a blockbuster movie.

I don't know if someone's gonna agree with me on this. But as a superman movie, I was expecting a movie and action where the action should have been felt like never before. Each fight scene was won by Superman so easily from the start. When he crashed in the opening, he was weak, then again in the pocket dimension he won because that meta human helped him, he got out because terefic helped him, he could not have won there either. Then in the final sceans when he was chocking, he flies to the space, I was expecting some power move like Henry cavill
Then he just crashed, he could not have fought his clone by himself, although it would have shown as a move that even if you clone Superman, you can not beat him.
In the man of steel, Superman fought alone entirely, all others were barely there

I personally had so much fun with this movie I personally loved this Superman way more than the others, because let me just say this back when the DCEU was there I lost all hopes for it, and for this one that’s kinda a fresh start my hopes rose back up because this Superman movie was tense from start to finish the action was very spot on, it was fun, it was funny, the acting was good, I think my only complaint was maybe just Eve cuz I felt like they’ve could’ve done more with her, Mr Terrific was legitimately a brand new character I didn’t know about till i watched him and he definitely stole the show so hands down the coolest side character, and yeah that moment where lex was about to say something but cut off to the joke with Krypto I feel like if they had lex finish what he needed to say then it would’ve changed the whole phenomenally overall this is a solid 9/10

This movie was absolutely abysmal. Ive only walked out on one movie. Battle field earth. I almost walked out on this one. But i decided to see how bad it could get. About the only thing i liked is i saw it in 3d. And its actually visually nice. They did a decent job there.
Theres no chemistry between any of the characters. The first 30 minutes of dialog is nothing but exposition. Superman is a whiny 12 year old man child. Krypto is annoying. Theres one legit funny scene with krypto. And im pretty sure the only super power Superman has in this movie is being a super punching bag. You could literally write out Superman in this movie except for the last 5 minutes or so. And it wouldn't change the movie at all.
I should have walked out.

I really enjoyed this movie, David's Superman seems like a guy I could imagine being friends with while all the previous versions seemed larger than life and less friendly.
But my issue with the movie that there's too much crammed into it. The pocket dimension and Ultraman plotlines could have easily been standalone movies and a slower pace could give it a bit more emotional depth. This Lex did so much and threw so much stuff at Superman that I really can't see what else he could do to hurt Superman. Recreating the big bang is such a big deal and it is treated like it is nothing that special. But as I said, I enjoyed the movie nonetheless. The ending with Supes watching the montage was perfect.

Think you’re trying to rewrite the film and you’re not doing a good job of it. Lex Luthor doesn’t give shit about his girlfriends. He’s too vain and self-absorbed. And despite the fact that he is portrayed has a really smart guy he’s not as smart as he thinks he is. You did have a good point about the I’m just as human as everybody scene being too short. But I don’t think Lex could’ve said anything that would have been a emotional response to what Superman just said. The audience didn’t need to hear the response so there was none. So onto the joke, which shows Lex getting physically beaten up the same way that Superman was beaten up all through the movie.

Its crazy to me that people liked this movie lmao I guess i didn't see what they saw in the movie. To me it felts like superman was just getting his ass handed to him starting the first second of the movie until the very end. Nothing felt like it had stakes, nobody was serious except maybe Mr. Terrific. I guess at some point the whole monsters thing must become desensitizing but unlike the invincible universe people are just chill. I guess its a specific thing where I could not relate to a single character at any level. Almost felt like a movie made by someone who worships superman as god yet fails to let him have a single super moment.

To be honest, as much as I have liked the dark gloomy representation of Nolan's batman and everything that was followed afterwards, I really liked the freshness and bright colours in Superman that has been lacking in DC, since so long. If you remember, the Flash Season 1-3 were so good, so many colors and emotions but by the end, even they made it pretty dark, which eventually killed the show. Same happened with Supergirl, legends and all of the DC tv shows as well. Yes you can blame the bad writing too, but overall oomph of the movie is so re-watchable with Superman.

Might be because I’m a pet owner, but I didn’t find krypto scenes to be forced comedic scenes.
For me at least, it just made superman and the world feel more real and human.
Cause my god do k get annoyed when my cat just randomly attacks my leg when walking. Or how whenever I’m using the laptop, my cat perfectly plants herself on the keyboard everytime. Krypto sitting on Louis’ lap felt like that. They don’t know it’s an inconvenience, so you just deal with it.
I did like how Krypto felt like an actual mischievous dog (thanks to super girl.

I disagree with the krypto scene I think it added more to their story the fact that superman's dog Ragdolls him around in front of his people with superman just there and then everything else falls apart for him. His hate is multiplied by the end of the movie.
I think that moment encapsulates lex's point of being so weak that a Kryptonian dog can do that to him without even superman moving a muscle.
At first it seemed off to me but after three rewatches it honestly didn't seem humours plus the audience wanted to see lex get hurt I know I did

Maybe it’s just me, but I really wanted to see Superman portrayed as undeniably powerful. Not just strongbut so strong that he holds back because he chooses to, not because he’s outmatched. In the movie, it often felt like the villains were actually stronger than him, and that took away from what makes Superman special. He’s not supposed to struggle to keep uphe’s Superman. The idea should be that he could end most fights easily, but doesn’t, because he values life and chooses restraint. That’s the kind of strength I was hoping to see.

I feel that for a Superman movie it was really good like a 7 or 8/10 but as a universe starter it was just trying to do too much. And they dumber down Krypto alot from the comics but i guess they showed us why hes like that.
In the break down please show some of the times he breaks physics, ie pushing the growing monster from stationary with nothing to propelle from. When he propelles from nothing to fly it makes more sense as he is using his momentum hence why he has a bit of a sping or uses his arms, but pushing the moster really triggered me

When Clark is talking to lois in the apartment about to say that he's turning himself in, they are talking about punk rock bands and lois says that the mighty crabjoys suck, and Clark has a slight change on emotions for a second. Then when superman is hurt and lois takes him to the Kent farm, she sees a poster on the wall of the mighty crabjoys, and lois realizes that superman likes that band. I just thought it was a small but cool addition and one you might want to use.

7: 51 I bet Corensweat felt the same way, and the argument they had was about Krypto undercutting his performance which is probably what inspired Corensweat to turn that monologue up to 11 and add extra sauce on it to completely command the tone of the movie and not have it quickly forgotten by Krypto coming in.
And in some ways the dichotomy of that entire thing makes them both more memorable.
Most of this movie does not work if not for David Corensweats ability to warp the gravity of a scene around himself.

2. Krypto is Kara/Supergirl's pet, & she likes it that way, where Krypto likes to charged at other person Even Clark said that how she trained Krypto is unhealthy
It's also kinda pisses me off, but at the end of the day, Krypto is a hyperactive superdog. Welp, at the very least he can be calm during the mid credit scene

I want to go to the movies without any kind of presumptions so I don’t watch trailers or trailer breakdowns before hand.
But I watch them post watching the movies and enjoy reliving the moments.
I saw the movie day before and couldn’t believe how many of your predictions in the trailer breakdowns came true.
Had I seen your trailer breakdown I couldn’t have enjoyed the movie as u literally gave spoilers even before the release.

Had I seen your trailer breakdown I couldn’t have enjoyed the movie as u literally gave spoilers even before the release.

I saw it today. agree that it feels like it crammed too much in. I felt like i was having a hard time keeping up at times.
I def enjoyed how this superman has a big heart, and david portrayed well.
I didnt mind the humor breaking things up but i agree that it ruined that moment where superman talks about being human. I didnt get emotional at all and i think its bc it wasnt given time to create impact.
Clark and his dad’s scene was nice but it felt alittle forced.
