A young woman and her decommissioned military droid struggle to escape a nuclear exclusion zone, hoping to find a better life on the outside free from the oppression of the forces that keep her there. More About Firmware 1990. 20 years have passed since The Incident. Civilization has collapsed and national borders have been forgotten. The walled-off Alcazar Exclusion Zone has emerged as a small functioning society- a melting pot of survivors from around the world. A young woman and her decommissioned military droid struggle to escape, hoping to find a better life on the outside-- free from the oppression of the forces that keep her there. Great Stuff. I'm very invested in the whole thing, so good job on that! I want to see if she can get another droid and plug her screwdrive in there to bring her companion back. Knowing she has a literal ticking clock and motivation is fantastic for a story that was only ten minutes long. If you had a middle and end you could easily fill a few theaters. Or maybe get a Netflix deal I'd binge the whole thing. Can't wait to see what's next, or more of this, if you're so inclined! I think, with VERY LITTLE (that's a joke) WORK, you could easily make a game out of it. Just a thought.

Whoever Calvin is, I'm pretty sure he'll be awfully proud and pleased to know that his work was superb!
Outstanding, excellent slightly above average short sci-fi work.
Almost pure ingenious. Almost legandary. Almost professionally done.
Would've been better if ol' Chappie had been a military model, instead of him being built for, well, companionship.
Whatever good that would've done, it had unexpectedly accomplished its mission.
And, therefore, made its purpose in becoming a servant of the heroic space marines army.
To overcome the forces of evil.
Very well, done. .

Absolutely brilliant, one of the best ones iv'e seen on Dust!
When it started i immediately thought this looks like the cut scenes that they have in games, only to find out that it was made with Unreal Engine which does exactly that and more, well done and will be looking out for more from
calvinromeyn
I wonder how long did this masterpiece take to create from character design to the finished product

Very cool. just one thing and this is true of all movies. grenades are a fragmentation not a thermobaric weapon. in any movie when a grenade goes off there’s a massive destructive effect and loads of flames, in reality it’s a small bang and a lot of fragmentation primarily designed to wound flesh. so the robot probably would’ve been ok unless very close. But I’m splitting hairs. great creativity.

Wow, Dust. Only your second so-so video in a few years. All the others I've rated excellent. There were several scenes where the motion was not realistic for a human, but I liked the plot and actors. And her face in the early scene wasn't realistic and was kind of blurry. I look forward to more of your vids. I've given up on the other makers and only watch Dust flicks now.

A couple things were sort of jarring to me. Radiation is misspelled on one of the signs. And the kid's bra in the last scene has a unique cup/strap ratio going on that felt as uncanny as any facial expression.
Oh! And I had to turn on the subtitles for the loudspeaker announcement message. Hard to understand.

I think the writing could have been better. The way the just let her keep running away in the beginning and the dumb robot that can't climb a wall plus how she decided to go through a checkpoint with weapons in her back bag didn't sell it for me

Co-writer and co-producer, here - thanks for watching, everyone!
calvinromeyn summed it up well - this project has been years in the making, and it's incredible to finally see it out there. Special thanks to DUST!

My name is Sam Romeyn, co-writer, voice actor, and mocap actor for the soldiers and military droids. I loved getting exploded, tazed, and falling off a box for this film! Thank you dust!

Great job. I love it. One tiny detail that stood out was that too much of the whites of her eyes showed so they looked a little unrealistic. Keep up the good work. I write Sci-fi too.

Borders on gloom and doom, but it's damn well made and the animation is spectacular. And besides, with that little heroine, it's bound to end well! Maybe we can see the next episode soon.

i once d/loaded unreal engine 5, but its too much for 1 person at my age and the pc power graphic rendering 1frame = time x - alot work involved def need a team Good work enjoyed this

Very well done. Gripping tension. Only one criticism, the gas mask filters still had the shipping plugs in the end, can't breathe with those in. I doubt a lot of people noticed though.

wow the animation is crazy, the storyline and the voice actors did a really great job I have just started learning and creating animation and I wish and pray I had such skill.

It was a bit rough around the edges but overall a good story and great work by everyone involved! I really enjoyed it and ended up not fast-forwarding through any of it!

10/10 Great film! Hope to see more from calvinromeyn in the future! Fantastic acting, loved the cheeky Easter eggs throughout the film. Got some good chuckles in

Very well done. The only criticism I have is the girl's eyes. They really never change expression through the film. Neither did her eyebrows. Voice was great, though.
