In an alternate 1930's Prohibition-era New York City, it's not liquor that is outlawed but the future production of highly sentient robots known as automatons. Automata follows former NYPD detective turned private eye Sam Regal and his incredibly smart automaton partner, Carl Swangee. Together, they work to solve the case and understand each other in this dystopian America. Automata Episode 1 by Van Alan More About Automata: Putting a science ction twist on the classic hard-boiled detective drama, Automata explores a dystopian alternative version of Prohibition-era New York City, similarly shaped by moral panic even though the alcohol ows freely here. In this universe, Prohibition doesn't ban drinking, but the further production of sapient androids that have become prevalent by the 1920s. As a result, the existing androids, called automatons, are shunned by society, relegated to an untouchable caste of servants despite their near-human thought capability, and are frequently subjected to hatred and violence. It's in this oppressive setting that human private detective Sam Regal (Basil Harris, Grimm) and his automaton partner Carl Swangee (Doug Jones, The Shape of Water) work together to solve cases for both communities, learning to see humanity in one another while trying to prove that justice is still worth serving

Mannn guys, you need to do more like this. Seriously. As far as I see you are the new Outer Limits (either the original or the remake in the 90s) this and everything you all present is amazing and just, hours and hours spent. A series, based off of several of your shorts, would easily be better then most on the 'SyFy' (How I hate that name change) can do.
This is excellent and a pre-series about the rise of the robots/how they were built, is that plastic or stamped metal, etc, would really be an amazing expansion to this. It is a Steampunk world, done right, nothing is goofy or overblown. All of the technology barring the robots fits great, it reminds me a lot of Gangs of New York in a lot of ways, just with robots.
Please keep doing work like this, or give us another season of this. It's one of the things which balances the plot and action, setting, everything as a proper blend. There are so many literary properties that could see the light under your studio.

I am really enjoying this series, I love mystery thrillers - like Ellery Queen, so this 1930's noir imagery is great. I'm also a fan of Steampunk and I keep thinking 'Technopunk' while watching. Good acting, good story, and like I mentioned - great film noir too. I'm on board for the series! Good work!

Intriguing story based on Isaac Asimov's robot stories, featuring detective Elijah Bailey and R. Daneel Olivaw,
his assistent and friend. The exotic mixture of 1930's background and state of the art humanoid robots, makes
it suitable for the movies: AUTOMATON The Movie

Great story from beginning to end; and specially the end. Reminds me a bit of Caves of Steel. robots, crime, set in New York. if this wasn't set in an alternative past, of course. This series deserves a sequel, a book 2, perhaps with 7 episodes instead of 5.

Good show. One thing thugh. I think a chick should get offed for cheating on her husband, especially if she was joking around about wanting him to here her screams of passion, as this chick was. I think it was just, what happened to her.

Neat little series. Sure the acting is a little cheesy, but fits the genre. I thought it best to put this positive review here as if you watch them in sequence, it tells an intriguing little story.

This is like the first chapter in a book that'll never be written. Adding a few pointless androids, on the other hand, makes this a millionth repeat on a theme. What a waste of time.

I feel that perhaps the aesthetic for the automatons doesn't really fit in with the 1920's. I'd imagine it being more bare, and perhaps with art deco style components visible instead.

I can always tell when Doug Jones is in a project. He has a distinctive voice. Much like Jason Statham, Christopher Llyod, Christopher Walken, John Wayne, James Earl Jones etc etc

Loved this short story. So nostalgic and futuristic at the same time. Felt like we had gone back to the future. I haven't watched anything but DUST since I started. I'm hooked!

This make believe detective doesn’t remind me of anybody i met in 35 years as a detective. In fact, he stinks as a detective. Carl seems more like a detective than this guy.

this is incred! the blen d of 30' s detective and Star Wars with 50s rodotics is masterful! And the 70's over acting crime drama!

Cant stand this kind of sci fi. steampunk, automoton, 1920-70s version of cyberpunk bronze nuts and bolts. i just cant follow.

Connor and Hank in a different reality.
It just reminds me of them, this is a really unique and interesting concept for a short!

2 Stars. Nothing good EVER comes from putting robots in a 1920's setting. Like the cloche hat tho.

Dusts short films are better than Hollywood's actual full length films I've been here binge watching

Excellent story. I enjoyed the scenery and the script is quite amusing. Liked it a lot!

I was expecting a twist up gear-based robot with very simple movements. This is just unrealistic

I love that they are using suits, I still buy them as robots though. Well applied.

Alternate realities/Parallel universes are more interesting than the future
