Did game genie & game shark make games more fun?

Using third-party options to cheat in games was common practice in the 90's and early 2000's. But how did Game Shark and Game Genie really make things better? Mixmaster: Funny thing is with me, I had gameshark myself for my PS1 and PS2 but the only time I would use them is if I got to a point in a game I can't pass straight up or I haven't a game in so long I just want to finish it and move on. The games I used it the most in was in the Armored Core games.
For the most part, Armored Core was kinda challenging but the one thing I hated in it was the boosting of your AC. Energy for boosting would run out rather quickly depending on what kind of enemies you had to fight. It sucked when you had to go up against enemy ACs with their infinite boost and you were stuck low on energy or recharging due to dodging attacks for a few seconds. Giving myself infinite boost evened the playing field.
Used it in Kingdom Hearts 1&2 also when I haven't played it in awhile. Only thing though, would have to turn off most of the cheats except for the extended hp/mp bar during some of the more powerful boss fights since for some reason it would give them infinite health.
End of the day, gameshark made a lot of single player games more fun. Especially in the GTA games. Mostly only used the codes for cars, tanks, all weapons, dual wield weapons, infinite ammo. Never use the infinite health though in that one because if you are in a vehicle and it explodes with you in it, you wont die but will be stuck in a burning car unable to get out.

you forgot a very important thing, we used cheating to make games more DIFFICULT, i remember using the gameboy version to capture bad pokemon like farfetchd and wobbufet right atr the beginning of the game, or using dratini as a starter, just to have a different experience, it was a cheat but it was a cheat designed to make the game replayable, to add more to games, and all modders nowadays are people that love the game they mod, it's not just a noclip+godmode, who hasvent used motherlode on the sims not because you wanted the game to be easier but because you wanted to build a different place, as if it were a creative mode in minecraft, i dont think cheating is the word that applies to gamegenie and game shark, they were just early mod tools

There is actually a necessity for the gameshark on the n64 for games like super smash bros. Because you see the n64 cartridge for super smash bros used SRAM for saving progress, and it ran on a battery that has a life span of about 17 years. This means the save battery is pretty much dead in all or most cartridges for super smash bros. So all the unlockables you worked on to obtain are all gone because the save data is gone because the save battery is dead. The only way to get access to the characters and levels in the game to play with your friends on multiplayer is through gameshark.

If the assholes at NES only designed their games more fairer, no one would have ever been so pissed and frustrated to complete their games as they were supposed to be intended. Game Genie turned their world upside down. A helpful instruction manual for each game would of been great too, instead of letting their customers stay in the dark not knowing what to do next or where to go during a gameplay, like Zelda. But alas, life will never be fair nor easy.

I loved modding my games? I don't see any problems with cheats that's why I swapped to pc gaming I am sick of Sony telling me what I must do with my property. I got a permanent ban from PSN for using GTA5 cheats offline as I don't use online gaming in fact hate online gaming. I do own PS4 and a PS3 but want buy ps5 6 7 or 8 if it goes that far. I refuse to buy things and be told how to use it and what I can and can't do. How about do one Sony and Xbox.

They absolutely made the games more fun and more accessible. One of the main reasons I only PC game now is because I can use trainers to cheat. Now I'm not talking about turning on god mode and plowing through a game since that's just boring to me, but things like adding a few skill points or giving myself the money needed to get something without having to grind for hours. It's way more fun being able to play games the way you want.

It's funny because I used to love using game genie and later the game shark on N64. I even loved the cheat codes in GTA 3. Never used them to beat the game but just to have fun. Then suddenly I began not liking them. I stopped all together. Outside putting in a cheat code to unlock stuff for my son to play cars 2 on Wii. I don't even want to know these codes. I can't explain why. I just stopped.

I loved cheat devices, especially during the gamecube era. and really I loved it the most on wind waker. I had so much fun activating the super hookshot and the walking on water cheat. I could try and mess with the game playing it out of sequence and see how the game reacts to it after beating it without cheats so many times its just fun to mess with it

Say whatever you want about Bethesda, but at least they support mods. Sure they have the shitty ass Creation Club thing, but there are a ton of free mods out there and that number is still growing. Bethesda supported mods for TES5, and Fallout 4 and they will most likely support it for TES6 and Fallout 5 whenever those happen in a decade or so.

Never had a GameShark or Game Genie, but i did have an AR MAX cheat disc for PS2 and that was actually really cool, especially for Final Fantasy 10, Max Payne and Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3.
On top of the huge title list, those were the ones I remember having that had lots of cool exploits and sandbox stuff to just mess with for hours on end.
