The Nintendo Switch isn't quite up to legend status yet, but we want to have some fun and compare it to it's oldest predecessor, the Nintendo Entertainment System

I was born in 1991, but was able to experience the greatness of the original NES through Gamestop back when they actually carried classic games, and for such amazingly low price tags, unlike the typical $20+ you have to shell out for the average NES game today. Had a 64 and the SNES as well at that time, but something about the NES was really neat, seeing how they really changed the gaming industry with battery saves, and d-pad controllers! While I loved the NES, the games, even the really well-polished gems were excruciatingly difficult, and much prefer the restore points the Wii U and the 3DS has.
I don't see any incentive to jump into the Switch online service, paying just to play NES games though, though I can say that I love the Switch, and it feels like the first true main Nintendo cartridge console since the N64, and in terms of innovation, I say its equal to the NES, since the NES threw out the one-button Atari joystick, and replaced that with a four-button controller (including the start and select buttons) and the introduction of the d-pad! Super innovative for its time!

My first game system was the N64. I remember playing it in a hotel room which was an option/convenience my parents had to pay extra money for.. the game of choice?..Super Mario 64... To date my favorite game of all time! I had never experienced or even could conceive of playing a open world 3D game where the paintings were fluid and you could jump into them and be transported to whole new worlds.. It was just simply mind blowing to my 8 year old mind.. needless to say I knew what I was asking for Christmas that year!.. And that's exactly what I got. Nostalgia , what a feeling.

NES was considered powerful at the time it came out, being state of the art technology. The Switch on the other hand is considered underpowered at the time of it's release and is among older technology in that department, matching over decade old technology.
Of course, to be fair, it came out during a time where technology came so far that decade old tech still looks amazing and considering it's a revolutionary console that is a mix of classic console and handheld, it's doing pretty well.

NES: a real Video Game Console. And it's games were really fun and innovative.
Switch: A some kind of jokes. And it's games are all total crap. The NES / SNES library it's unmatchable. Not even the Nintendo of today could manage it any longer.
For the company, it would be better to stay out of the way. They are not a real serious Video Game company anymore. Just a toys creators. Not a big deal.

NES was the pokemon GO of its time it just dominated.
NES was the dominant game system of its age the same way pokemon GO dominated the world for a year.
To me its like comparing a running world champion from the 60s to a local star of the current age that runs faster but his just the best of his own country his not even close to being world champion.

NES:
- better library (so far)
- better controller
- way more original IP's
- greater challenge factor
- several classic arcade ports
Switch:
- superior aesthetics
- hybrid console/portability
- exclusive features (additional content)
- recent IP's that didn't exist back then
- more multiplayer capabilities

People ask why I collect game cartridges or cds for old consoles when they use emulator. I just respond -emulators are not for me-.
(I love new systems today especially the Switch but my love for retro consoles will die).

And so we join Nintendo's inspirational boldest (Switch) and oldest (NES) gaming consoles as they continue to be quite an exuberant piece of artificial entertainment for amongst generations of families and friends.

It's gone very far since then! I remember so much of the old consoles, back when I was a little kid in the late 90s. Seeing the Switch and Wii U now makes me think of that. :')
