I started working at MicroPlay around the second revision for the PSX released. We got so many defective units in that we stopped taking them. We started making the customer send them back directly to Sony. When we started modding PSX's for -backups,- we would typically have to spend most of our time fixing blown caps before modding them. If you had a PSX and gave it to a store for modding and it took them 3 to 5 days to solder 7 wires...now you know why. It's all coming back to me...the PSX had an amazing set of games but man was the machine itself junk.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge PlayStation fan. I have an extensive PS1 library in our retro room...it's perplexing to me that Nasa would choose the R3051 Risc processor over anything else. I think if you want a low power processor you go with a Motorola 68K over anything else. The MC68328 runs at the same speed and can take far more punishment than the R3051.

I am actually playing Final Fantasy VIII right now for about the 5th time. I'm using the PS one (the smaller later model) and it sometimes doesn't want to load the game. It will often go to that screen that says -please insert a Playstation format disc- or sometimes it will get stuck on the second screen with the black background. My copy of Final Fantasy VIII is mint, not a single scratch on any disc, and it is not a burned copy. My PS one is in beautiful condition and super clean inside and out, so I don't know what's causing this. Could it be that regional/security feature mentioned in this video that is causing this error? If somebody knows, please help...

I have a Playstation 2 and a Playstation 3 WHEN sony did the whole oh we don't do backwards compatibility anymore I just went well NOPE not buying anymore systems. So I have been using Steam . However I will give Kudos to Persona 5 for being one of the best Ps 3 and Ps 4 games to come out before I switched over from console to PC . I still love consoles. I just play them less nowadays.

Related : I remember several PC games that also had Red Book Audio on the game disc - two of my favourites were Mech Warrior 2 and the amazing Half Life, which had a very rhythmic and at times an 'otherworldly' soundscape.

Paid to have a mod chip installed in mine which made it able to play burner copies..also picked up a unfinished game called -Thrill Kill- great game, great system and still play every now and again till this day.

I have the PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PSP, and PS Vita, all lined up on my TV stand.
PSP Go or the Playstation phone were never on my wanted list.
I must say, PS2 and PSP are my favorite playstation consoles.

Did anybody know while playing the original Grand Theft Auto, you can remove the disc WHILE PLAYING THE GAME, and replace it with a music CD to play the tracks in different cars?

The Joysticks set the template for controller's of the future and made the games SO much better. Especially playing games like Gran Turismo, it makes the handling much better.
