I had the feeling for a long time that -linear- came just around the time Call of Duty was popular and people started to get pissed off in a hipster fashion, like -I played games before it was cool-.
So in order to poke at all the -normie pleb noob- players they call their games -linear-. That's why early on, cause I've always liked and played video games, I often call myself a casual.
That way I know to get rid of annoying assholes who think preferring Battlefield to Modern Warfare is a personality.

I'm don't spend much time playing video games, but I enjoy them from time to time, so maybe without the hardcore status, I might be wrong or maybe I'm missing something, but buth linear games and nonlinear games both have their charms. The things that are fun about GTAV or No Man's Sky are different from the things that are fun about Tomb Raider or Ryse. Of course, games like GTAV or Tomb Raider aren't entirely one way or the other, but maybe that's a sign of good game design?

Playing Dark Souls at first was so difficult. Repeating the game series makes it easy, little by little. It's the actual difficulty and atmosphere of the game that I liked and the main reason I play the series. That Sif thing still hits me hard emotionally even today, no matter how many times I replay that fight.

I feel old when you say that you would love to replay your games that you played in the 80s and 90s... I started gaming in 89 and have been gaming like a maniac ever since... and I agree I love most story lines and pretty much always complete the main story line regardless of linear or open world settings

The biggest driving factor behind this myth is the Publishers / developers themselves. It enables them to focus on games as a service or pay to win models -for your own good- they're just thinking of you. The fact is , its a lot harder to generate ongoing income off a linear / complete game.

That's not the point of spoilers.
The point is that you want to see the journey yourself, you don't want to be told it.
It's different when you're seeing again because you have experienced it yourself the first time. You'll relive that.
That's what spoilers spoil.

Thank you for that quick glimpse of Master Chief at the end...I was thinking about the linear-ness of Halo throughout the vid and never saw a reference until I saw the Chief floating outside the Pelican at the end there...brought a tear to me eye.

I used to complain about zombie games being dumb because they'd never let you climb or do things you could in real life to get away. These days they let you climb everything and most of them still bore the shit out of me
