We wanted to acknowledge some open world games with truly convincing looks and atmosphere - the places where it feels like people really inhabit Cornealus: Kingdom Come Deliverance felt very lived in for me. And what makes it even more awesome is that the area is real, and you can see pictures of it! The developers really put their heart and soul into it and it shows, definitely waiting on KCD 2.
Another one is L. A. Noire. I love how as you go through the story, the people on the street react to you and how you've been handling cases.

This guy didn't play RDR2 lol. You wouldn't dismiss its -empty countryside- otherwise. Animals wake, drink water, hunt/search for food, eat, explore, sleep, and all of them follow routines. RDR2's -empty countryside- is more lived in than the cities in the other games on this list, GTA V included, which goes to show Rockstar's progress between each game.

Sad to me that all but 2 of this top 10 have the cruddy -behind the character- perspective. I'm on an island here but that is an instant deal breaker for me. I don't care how good the content is. Maybe because I've never owned a console? This perspective feels very console-like to me.

The forest is another great one. You actually build weird relationships with the enemies. It's creepy cutting down a tree while a tribe of cannibals watch you from a distance. They will even run up on you just to test you then run away.

Honestly I question Skyrim because without mods most of the areas other than directly inside the cities/towns are most of the time where you come across people. Why was Watch Dogs completely ignored? It definitely feels 'lived in'

you missed watch dogs 2. I'm a rockstar fanboy and not much of a gamer, i just get so bored but i tried watch dogs 2 few days ago and undoubtedly its more lived in than gta 5.

i disabled the fog effect inthe settings ini file for AC Syndicate and it made the game look so much better. the view distance was something else with that.

Playing Horizon Forbidden West, and while I usually roll my eyes at the -living breathing world- line, I feel like it-s really starting to happen.

All of other games, you'll feel like you're playing a video game.
GTA San Andreas will make you feel like you're living in it.
