10 misconceptions about gamers from non-gamers [pt 2]

Gamers often get a bad rap from the general public. Here are more misconceptions about video games. Let us know what you think! LGD: I think it's worth noting, in regards to number One, that at the time of the rise of gaming (I'm talking the 70s, 80s, and early 90s), gaming WAS by and large a niche market, being developed at least in part by -hyper-nerds- who would spend months on end getting a wall to render in a -3d- environment (here's looking at you, ID). If you consider the fact that the Silver Screen and Hollywood at the time was the absolute, undisputed Goliath of the entertainment industry, it would make sense they'd need to present an image of gamers that was less-than-desirable. The need to control the entertainment industry was threatened by a relatively small group of individuals passing around floppy disks with personally-written games that Hollywood quickly had to find a way to either snub out or make money off of. When attempts to take the wind out of the gaming sail through a smear campaign against gamers failed (they tried the same thing with Dungeons and Dragons, mind you), the AAA industry made the (wise) choice to lean into it and start churning out their own marketable products for the genre.

#7- Yep been there.- To all those parents of gamers who think can't ya just pause the game do what I ask you and come back later or time for bed turn it off now... NOW!. don't understand or care about save points in a game or the work put into a multiplayer game (team effort, can't just leave your friends hanging). Completely rude to everyone multiplayer and inconsiderate to your child on single player. Give him or her a chance to find a save spot (single player) or finish the round their on (multiplayer) They have other people they are playing with who depend on them and can't just disconnect out of nowhere. Imagine your kid completely demolishing that 150-200 piece puzzle you've been working on for a week or messing up some other hobby you've worked so hard on. We care about the effort we put into our hobbies too, even if you don't.

Whoa whoa whoa hold up now!!!
When I play RPG adventure games and stuff of that nature I always make the -good- choice, because that-s who I am in real life-
It has nothing to do with it being a murder simulator or the fact that I-m automatically gonna make the bad choice!? I always make the good choices in the game-
In Fact, it-s the other way around for the Mass Effect games I have to go through and play again and make sure that I make all the bad choices for the -Renegade- play through-

To #7, depending on the urgency of what it is of course, the game is sometimes less important. Or, for kids, something they were supposed to have done before they started playing. I've absolutely made my kids drop out mid-match because they were supposed to be cleaning their rooms or something along those lines and were playing on the computer instead. And I have absolutely dropped out mid-match to go adulting against my will. Gotta have priorities and remember that a game is just a game.

I have a few family members (not parents or siblings) that even though I'm 27 and have a wife and kid, still say I'm gonna grow up to be a loser. That I'm not capable of anything else. I've experienced all of these. But the number one pick bugs me the most. There are so many positive things I've done with my life. But all they focus on is that I collect and play video games. Once I told them -sorry my only hobby isn't working and watching TV-. And now they add disrespectful.

I do play every type of game being 38. But usually stick with only a handful at a time even though I have over 400 games on my PS4. Note- I do have a TBI and blind to the right on both eyes so first person shooters I play the least of. Non-gamers shouldn't judge so much. I have a lot of hobbies and a social life. I skateboard shoot pool play poker sing and write. Non-gamers that think they know gamers must not have much of a life themselves if they worrying about ours.

Doesn't matter waht happens in my life - or actually in this world - I always be a gamer at heart. My best moments in my life and fun were always when I played a video game, listened to their soundtracks or even bought a game. Nothing can take it away from me these experiences. Just mention I playing rpgs and my other favourite genre Adventures! I know its dying but still love it. I don't have girlfriend but its Ok for me.

I disagree with number 3 hear me out .... gaming is for everyone and mental health isnt perfect for a large proportion of people. Im a bipolar gamer and anger definitely gets the better of me. I grew up with nes and that little system could take a beating. When i was 12 i saw blood on my friends nes where he had punched it playing tmnt i felt a little less alone in this world knowing frustration is shared

Has nothing to do with this video honestly; just wanted to celebrate with ya'll that I spent 20 years of my life playing video games and spent 20 years to get my mom to put aside her -games are complicated- opinion and play a game with me. I've achieved my goal. She's addicted to Animal Crossing Pocket Camp -
