Okay, two things:
1st, I will defend the story of Sonic Frontiers, cuz that game made me (a lifelong fan of the series & it's lore) cry multiple times. There was SO much character development it was insane for a Sonic game! Really enjoyed Sage & fleshing out Eggman's character in both cutscenes & memos. So saying it's nothing I think is a disservice to the game, but I agree it's not a perfect game. But what's here is pretty dang fun!
And 2nd, Horizon Forbidden West, I agree has issues & relies WAY too much on forcing you to go to the nearest workbench for cheaper crafting. Not to mention slower ammo crafting mid-combat. Which are the worst things I can think of that this game does. But other than that, Forbidden West is MILES better than Zero Dawn! And I say that after putting in WAY too many hours into the game!
Able to keep track of individual parts of a machine, making for easier tear-offs. No longer having a limit for resources, MASSIVELY improved melee combat so both long & close can be used in tandem. 20 new machines NOT found in Zero Dawn. Puzzles ACTUALLY requiring a bit of thought compared to Zero Dawn's, with a pretty rewarding payoff if I say so myself. Actually knowing where to climb after being SO confused or lack of any indication in Zero Dawn. And most importantly, VASTLY better means of traversing the world with the Sunwing & shieldwing glider!
All the improvements, as well as every cutscene simply looking better than Zero Dawn, really kept me from returning to Zero Dawn until the remaster dropped. Because Forbidden West did play & look SO much better!
I love the content, and I don't intend for this to come off as mean. But these are the two main things that I had to point out as a fan of both. While Kena, I can mostly agree on what was said. :)

Feels like someone wanted to hate on HFW.
I mean, it is not the only game on this list with a Metascore higher than 80, but it does have the highest score at 88.
The More of the same argument is hypocritical considering you can say the same about many sequels including GoWR, but it is also mostly false.
Melee combat in HZD was just swinging you spear. In HFW, you have combos and those combos can put Aloy behind, to the side of, far away from, or above the enemy so you could follow up with a different attack. Aloy can also use melee to leave energy on the enemy that explodes when you shoot it. So now you can mix a melee combo with archery to create an explosion on your target. And don't forget the valor surges that can turn the tides of battle.
Combat is only one of many things different in HFW. There are new tools, new weapons, new machines, new rideable mounts, new ways to traverse an area, new locations, new tribes, new allies, new enemies, and a new story. I do not see the more of the same argument holding much water.

That tends to be a lot of games that I end up loving a lot. Hotel Dusk from the Nintendo DS That would probably be a 7 or less for a lot of people since it only used so much of the system's features, but made up for it with an incredible story and very unique visuals. Ico from the PS2 Unarguably a janky and short title, but is definitely one of many games that spearheaded the games are art sentiment for many people back in the day. Definitely goes to show that oftentimes, numerical scores just don't really pass muster as a system, there's always so many moving parts that it's hard to score everything with just a single number. Of course, I've seen some people who use multiple scores to individually score things (graphics, gameplay, music, etc, but even that can be a tricky method since there's a lot of subjectivity with combining those scores into a satisfying cumulative one.

Do not buy Avatar game. There's a bug that force you to buy the DLC in order to play the main game. It locks you out once you activate a certain quest midgame. Ubisoft did not fix this issue just to get extra bucks from gamers. One of the best 7 out of 10 games for me(according to my own rating) is the new 2024 Alone in the Dark. Horizon is definitely an 8 or 8. 5 for me not a 7. The other 7 is RoboCop: Rogue City with a very strong 7. Both games are double A and can be quite janky at times but they're first and foremost fun. The Outer Worlds is a bit underwhelming and felt too restrictive compared to a Bethesda game, the story is nowhere near as good as Fallout NV and even feels a bit boring compared to the lackluster Fallout 4. I would also recommend the janky but very underrated Slitterhead by the makers of Silent Hill and Siren.

Horizon FW is better than a 7, and way better than the 1st game, it is what a sequel should be, it added alot, totally disagree with Jake here on that one and on The Outer Worlds, that game was crap, overrated as hell, maybe a 6/7, but really boring. I really regretted buying it, the combat is terrible and the actual worlds are shallow as hell, graphics horrible, the enemies boring/trashy/badly designed, it's crap, don't buy it. Yeah it's got it's moments, but it's SOOOOOOO forgettable, I pushed through it purely to finish it to get whatever trophies I could having spent money on it, and I could literally watch entire play throughs of it and barely remember anything. Those special moves get so annoying after you've seen them once.

I totally loved and was moved by Horizon Zero Dawn, but in many ways, Forbidden West (and also Burning Shores) felt exactly like what they are: the middle games of what we all hope will end up being a grand trilogy.
Pretty good, and I loved the new tribes, the new tools Aloy got to play with, and some of the surprises; likewise, the voice acting was generally excellent all across the board. But ulitmately, it felt like the game was meant to keep enough of the player's attention and interest to get them to stay with it until you can get to the climatic (and hopefully) awesome final installment.
I genuinely liked the game. but yeah, if I was the numbering type, I wouldn't give it more than a 7 or 8 out of 10, either.

As a person that spent 200 hours and absolutely loved Horizon Zero Dawn I tend to agree with Forbidden West coming off as kinda meh. My main complaint was the weapons this time around. I couldn't really find that one bow that covered all my needs like the last game and having to constantly swap out during fights was irksome. I played Zero Dawn multiple times and covered every square in the map and with Forbidden West I got through it once and put it down. There are some things still left undone which is a testament to which one I enjoyed the West. Prettier isn't always better. Hopefully the next one will be better and more innovative.

Nah this is the first time I have to massively disagree with Gameranx. How tf is Horizon FW a 7/10 game for not changing much as a sequel, but Spider-Man 2 gets a pass Spider-Man 2 is the exact same crap as the first 2 games, EVEN WITH HALF THE SAME MAP, and suits, enemies, etc. Horizon FW has a completely new map, new characters, new style of story, new machines, weapons, mechanics, massively improved climbing and melee combat, i could go on. not to mention just a great game. Every review online is 7. 9-9/10 too, so uve not even got that to fall back on. Ridiculous.

Decent list, I think the only one I disagree with is the Outer Worlds. Sure the combat doesn’t pack a punch like other shooters but I think it makes up for it in the role playing aspect and the dialogue you have with your companions and other npcs. Would at least give it an 8 imo. When I think of a 7/10 game, I think either Immortals Fenyx Rising or Robocop: Rogue City. Both with fun combat and cool environments to explore, but weak stories. Cutscenes in Robocop were a joke and the amount of puzzles in Immortals takes away its replay ability.

Although I don’t pay much attention to number scores, 7/10 is a decent score. Not every game has to be, CAN be - or, arguably, even SHOULD be - a 10/10. Especially with critics and players all bringing their own wants, needs and preferences - not to mention biases - to the party. A fun game is fun. Don’t like it Play another fun game. (And Forbidden West is one of my GOAT, in my top 5, and builds beautifully on the first game. But I’m not mad to see it here, either. Like you say - subjective)

I'm kind of the same way when it comes to games as well. I just say that it's either a good game, mediocre game, or bad game. No ranking system necessary, also the games that I play are good in my book anyways and I would say that a game is fun but by no means does it count as me recommending anyone to play said game. I acknowledge that we all have different tastes in video games, so if you want to get it then get it and if you don't want to get it then don't get it.

Horizon 2 is fantastic but i feel like the shits broken sometimes. Specifically gameplay. Aloy just acts like a dumbass sometimes. Arrows shot point blank at weak points for some reason go thru and hit a hard point on the other side or flying of course entirely.
Forget climbing anywhere you're not expected to go. Even with the light up yellow markers she just doesn't want to do what you input.
Loved it tho. Got my platinum trophy.

OUTER WORLDS IS THE WORST GAME EVER RELEASED. I will never understand how people dont see it as No Mans Sky got receieved at launched. It (OW) is absolute joke.
HZD is always just Okay. Same for uncharted, last of us, and just about anything from PlayStation. Always seems like it's just about distraction with graphics instead of any fun gameplay. It's all crafting and walking simulators all the time with triple A titles I swear

This is weird video. At first it seems like a list of games you might have missed because they werent received well, but have actually great qualities about them. But then theres horizon and outer Worlds on there. Generally seen as well received and reviewed games, where the vibes is more like hey we know they are great games, but actually they're not. Feels like some people needed to put their personal hate in there.

Honestly avatar wasent that bad personally it was more of a 8/10 yes story was odd but the environment was beutyfull graphics where spot on the detail to attention and u really just get transferred to the world only main problem was the amount of mounts you can use felt lack luster but other than that a 8/10 I love it when far cry takes a different aproche far cry primal, far cry blood dragon ect
reply

I agree with a lot of the points made about HFW. I’ll add that it was super irritating grinding for the best armor and weapons in the first game only to start the 2nd and they just lazily give the excuse that Aloy lost her gear on her journey. Those type of drawbacks keep it from being a true leap forward but overall I still disagree that it’s only a 7/10 game. Feels like a 8. 5

I was really enjoying Greedfall but ultimately I could not get past the go here and talk to this person so they can tell you in a long winded conversation that you need to go here and talk to this person who tells you in a long winded conversation that you need to go back to the other person to talk to them to get a new quest that starts by going here and talking to this person.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse Earthblood would be something I would call a 7/10 (apparently it was for Steam. A video game introduction to the tabletop, though very focused on the Action RPG side of the game.
I only started the game, and the voice acting has a lot to be desired. But, the main theme is an absolute banger and is fun to rip and tear as a giant monstrosity

I thought Avatar looked amazing. When you first escape the facility and walk into the open world. Man oh man, such vibrant colors. Such an atmosphere. I think this set a pretty beautifull intro to the game. Exploring later on, expanding regions filled with color and animals. In my opinion, Ubisoft did their best with this. The rest. was less exciting hahaha

How can you say that forbidden west is not that much different from zero dawn! For a start You can fly and mount more than one machine & dive under water! And the skill level up system is completely different & improved! honestly what the hell! It’s like saying Jedi survivor is not much of an improvement from fallen order! Rediculous video man.
