Ima be honest i didn't love this video, i was really intrigued by the idea but felt 'lied' to. Almost all of the games felt like they were just describing how the game still had content after 100 hours, not 'got better'. They also repeatedly used the idea that after you've played X of the game you have more things unlocked which i appreciate but wouldn't call that 'better'. Honestly it was a hard video topic, i went in thinking 'What No way! ' and came out thinking the same thing. There was also mention of side content that typically can be accessed at (relatively) any point, not just after 100 hours. I will give props to Isaac and it's genre as a game that literally creates new ways to play as you unlock things, but it seemed they also tried to put that justification on other games because you unlock new/unique weapons of the same 'class'.
Idk man, i love Gameranx, but this one felt like someone told them they had to make this video and they were left scrambling for ways to make it work.

Yeah, I never could get into rpg's. I actually put far more time into games like tetris, rts games, and fighting games. They just have better gameplay mechanics.
I guess if I was to really break it down, it would be because of balance. Designing your own character in an rpg to balance with your skill is very time-consuming. It is so difficult that most players just focus on one category and spam dodge and attack, then call the game difficult. When in reality they often make it harder than it was originally intended to be.
I've witness many gamers with over a decade of experience play this way. An it honestly has a negative impact on game development. To the point that I'm not even sure you can realistically balance out your character in some of these games. So, I'd rather just play games that don't allow so much freedom of choice.

I think the most important part is the game has to be good for this to apply. A rare thing these days.
I dont see 100 hours in some of these.
Replayability is a lost art. If you make a game and people one & done it you've failed in my book.
I always go back to old games instead. Skyrim specifically. It just works. Even without content mods.
I grew up on classic rpgs and there were ways to make replaying convenient and most importantly faster. That doesn't exist anymore except on PC these days and I gave up on PCs. It sucks, man. I want to replay games, but it just is too much of a hassle.
Let people modify single player games again.

Now that I'm well into my 44th level of the big game of life, I can honestly say that the store launchers and their stats have made me more aware of what games I return to.
Seeing that I've barely scratched the surface of the achievements and have north of 500 hours, let's you know there's both depth and ridiculous specific achievements in games.
Games like Civ I-VI have taken a huge chunk of that time, but here's also games like Battletech, Distant Worlds series, RimWorld, Zero Sievert, Stars in Shadow, Fallout 4, No Man's Sky, Terratech, Surviving Mars, CS and it's offshoots, Dave the Diver and Space Engineers, that have kept my interest.

I have a 240 hour Fallout 4 playthrough parked on XBox where I’ve competed the main quest and all the DLC, and STILL find fun stuff to do. My Steamdeck FO4 run is over 100 hours, and I’ve done almost NONE of the main quest stuff. Good times. (And I have over 100 hours in with Starfield, into NG and playing Shattered Space. Perfect, no - but I still love the game) I wander off to play other games, but always come back to these two.

Noita gets way better at 100 hours, when you are actually good enough to survive exploring what may be the most cryptic universe in gaming. Of course there is shit there that can't be discovered unless someone actually tells you, but a lot of the fun is locked behind being curious enough to go to some crazy places, and being good enough to manage to survive the crazy difficulty spikes the game has makes the game way better

You don't have to play Yakuza 8 for 100 hours to enjoy Dondoko Island. I 100%'d Dondoko Island as soon as I unlocked it, refusing to progress the story. Also, I have no idea what game you think is longer than Yakuza 8. If you're talking about 100%ing every single thing for every trophy, then maybe there's an argument to be made, but thankfully, Infinite Wealth doesn't require you to craft and max out every weapon.

Games I have 100 hours in according to Steam: Cities Skylines, Civ 5 and 6, Renowned Explorers: International Society, Skyrim, Afterimage, Fallouts 4, 3, and New Vegas, Defense Grid, Borderlands 2, Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley
I play almost exclusively on Steam, but the one additional game that absolutely needs to be mentioned here is Genshin Impact. It's like a single player MMO.

I'd like to correct something about total war warhammer. You don't need all three games to play immortal empires, you only need warhammer 3. The way it works is that all content from all 3 games, including dlc, is present on the immortal empires map, and you will be able to fight against them, you just won't be able to play as them unless you buy them

The young guy at work talked up Stalker 2. I checked it out even though it's not my normal taste, that said 2 times playing and I'm having a blast. Before Ubis CEO treated the community like an ATM I put hundreds and hundreds and hundreds hours in Rainbow 6 Siege. I still learned something new almost every time.

calling stalker 2 a bit glitchy is an understand but it also shows how acceptable we are of broken games getting released by the companies just to churn more money without doing any proper testing or optimization. the so called mentality of 'the patch will fix it later' is just cancerous and sad.

If you have to put in even just 10 hours before you really start enjoying a game. It's not a good game. That means it's pacing is badly designed. If you have to wait 100 hours. you're an idiot and wasting your time on a game that isn't good. Part of it being good, doesn't mean the game is good.

If I need to play a game for more than 10 hours for it to get good, I'm not going to keep playing it. If it's amazing for over 100 hours, I will play it until I have squeezed every last drop of content out of it. But if it doesn't grab me in those first 10 hours, I'm not spending more time on it.

I think snowrunner, and other mudrunner games should definitely be on the list.
I've sunk about 400-500ish hours into the game and still haven't seen everything! Plus it gets way easier once you know the routes to take, the trucks to drive, etc. Definitely one of my absolute favorite games

Nioh 2 should be here as well. Its like Souls had a baby with Diablo.
There is so much loot and so many builds.
Sure, you could just blow trough the story, but farming for stronger gear to go trough tougher and tougher difficulties is where the real game begins

I was 14 with no hope for a PC and I remember obsessing over the idea of playing city of heroes after I got a PC mag with a bunch of pictures of the game inside. I only got a pc 4 years ago when I was 29 and wish I got one sooner to experience it!

I still play Skyrim, but I disagree that it gets better after 100 hours. Skyrim is awesome after the 1st hour, because from there you don't have to do any quests, you can just roleplay and go off and do your own thing. It really is the perfect game!

Yall promote stalker 2 like it wasnt the sloppiest game release of the past few years. Game was released unplayable, still has progress stopping bugs after multiple 30gb patches. if thats good now a days i guess our standards have truly dropped.

You know what would be a great video idea A low spec game list! A list of games that are easy to run for people on laptops, or low specced PCs! I recently bought a laptop, and I’ve never had to worry about can I run it, so I’d love to see one
