Gameplay and first impressions commentary on Alan Wake's American Nightmare. A more open ended arcade-like game than Alan Wake, but it still has that awesome Remedy touch

The Remedy touches made it special for me, the soundtrack, voice acting, characters, radio stations, dialogue, etc. It's like watching a new movie from a director you like even if it's not the best he's made. Even with the otherwise monotonous and mechanical combat at times there were sparks of creativity with memorable fights and setpieces. It was supposed to be a different beast from what came out eventually, and this bother me a little. What we got was a good game sure, but you know, what if?

Here be spoilers. Off the top of my head: the rock concert, the first time a possessed bulldozer attacked you, the field of words that represent -canned- enemies, the flying books, the Anderson brothers' dialogue in the clinic (and the hammer, the local radio host, the lady of the light, the two hick policemen, the FBI agent and his -insults-, the TV show obviously. Heck even Barry grew on me as the game progressed, it felt like they really were friends. and human, especially at the mansion.

Dude. Love mostly all your vids. One thing I will say is that you are fantastic at voiceover impressions. Impressive. This type of game is 'watch fodder' for me. Enjoyable to watch. Not really my sortathing though. :-D Alan Wake is a bit. well. hes not really Max Payne. He's like the opposite of MP. Does that make any sense at all?
Regardless awesome playthrough-type vid: -D

Great, Alan Wake is just cIassy. I'm a big Stephen King fan, and I've never had this type of Stephen King experience before. frickin love your voices man. Makes me want to do something with weird voices myself.
Thanks for entertaining me and my dinner! Well, thanks for entertaining me WHILE I'm having my dinner I guess. Screw it, even my dinner is entertained.

I've got it, I've played it, and I've been largely unimpressed with it. It's got some cool ideas and there are some crazy experiences to be had, but I just didn't have that much fun with it. it feels a bit too frantically out-of-hand for my taste, and more in a -seems broken- way rather than in an adrenaline-pumping way.

The narrator is exactly how Rod Sterling was in the Twilight Zone series (you know the proper b&w series from the 50's and 60's. I wonder if it is on purpose or coincidental. The tone, the way sentences are ended and dragging of words make it seem not to be a coincidence.

Such a fan of your videos, I'm a fan of the original Alan Wake and wasn't really sure if I would like this game myself or not. To be honest I could sit and watch you play games all day it's so entertaining!

The story of this game has kept me at bay until Alan Wake 2, but I agree: Alan Wake is such a better story. However, I freaking love Mr. Scratch. He is probably my favorite antagonist of all time.

voice acting definitely could of made this a whole lot better, the twilight zone narration style is pretty good but the dudes voice doesnt do it justice. Gotta sound sharp and smooth at the same time
reply

Heck yes. The original Alan Wake was a shameless homage/rip-off of Stephen King novels, Twin Peaks, and The Twilight Zone, and this one continues that tradition.
