It's Arcade August on LGR! First up is Atari's Battlezone, the first-person perspective tank combat game with vector graphics and a sweet dual joystick cabinet

i remember an arcade game where you had to put a helmet which had the controls attached to the side and made you turn around with the thing on which had vector graphics and it was something like mechwarrior. it was amazingly disorienting and gave headaches like 99% of the time and when you took the thing off it was like you just made 1000 spins giving massive headaches and for what i remember the machine was put out of service because it made people vomit all the time hahahaha

The Xbox 360 Xbox Live Arcade version -BattleZone Evolved- is great. Playing it right now! It seems Microsoft just -moved it- they appear not to have taken it down. It now appears on the Xbox Live Marketplace website again. these digital games won-t last forever though. I was fearful of such an eventuality, so I bought it right away. Digital games have been taken off of store fronts in the past. Download them and back them up while you can!

-scratches head-
I'm sure that Gameroom was discontinued (and the developers, Krome Studios, fired) in late 2010. I can't find it in the Games for Windows store for download and I can't even download it from my past download list cause it just errors out.
It might be that it's still available, but only in a small handful of regions maybe? Not sure anymore.

A couple of bowling ally-s have arcades here, nothing too retro here. Cruisin World, Daytona USA, a modern Galaga/Miss Pac-Man combination unit and a modern Galaga/Pac-Man LED machine are the best we have here. Nothing from 80-s from Sega or Atari. I would love an Afterburner II, Space Harrier, or Tempest Machine here where I live.

Yup, there is a story about an idea of making the animated volcano in the game. You can find it out if you have the replicated 16-bit Windows version of Battlezone, Microsoft Arcade. It is on the Help menu.
I once have the copy of it for my old PC. but now it's lost.

I'd love to eventually see your thoughts about the 1998 offshoot Battlezone that paid some homage to the original in the opening cutscene but was a very interesting beast entirely. Combining first person tank warfare with a real time strategy layer.

Love the review LGR. I always had a special place for vector-based graphic games. I haven't played the original battlezone in an arcade. But I've heard it's great! Have you tried a PAL/NTSC and voltage converter on the banana to run it correctly? ;-)

In the early 1990s, I got addicted to the Battlezone that was included in Microsoft Arcade pack for Windows 3. 1 (apparently was also made for Mac, according to Wikipedia, which as far as I can tell is a perfect replication of the arcade version.

Battlezone 2000 for Atari Lynx arrived. It is different from the original. You don-t die in one hit, and you don-t kill in one hit. you have armour, fuel and ammo. it is split into missions. otherwise it looks and plays like classic arcade Battlezone.
