[Note] I have no idea how I ended up writing so much, but I feel it would be sad to delete all of it. xD
I've been sticking to Logitech Mice for the better part of 20 years xD
First mouse was a 3 button Logitech mouse, with no scroller, in 1995.
By 1996/1997 I had upgraded to a 'Logitech Mouseman+ Wheel' (ergonomic.
Sometime in the mid-200's I got a 'Logitech g500' second gen (corded with weights) Still have this bad boy, but I have retired it.
Around 2010, I shifted to a 'Logitech MX Anywhere', which is a wireless mouse. And it drained batteries like I drain a bottle of cola. And it being wireless, meant that I could throw it, in a fit of rage. After having met a concrete wall for the 4th time, it was time to get a new mouse.
In comes 'Logitech G402'.
It's nice. The little brother of the mouse in the video.
Though to my hand it is a bit too flat and long. The only way I can utilize all the buttons is by having a claw-like grip, which I am not used to.
(I hold my mouse, with my thumb and ring-finger on each side. So movement for me is done by fingers and wrist action. Though I have seen co-workers use the whole elbow, shoulder, arm to move around a mouse)
All in all, I like my mouse.
But mouseshapes have gone away from comfy resting mice to grip mice (if it makes any sense, which to me personally, isn't to my taste.

i guess the box didn't have a big enough angular notch cut on the corner compared to you liking the uniqueness of the Avermedia Aegis box. i like unique boxes and keep them too. I have the same mouse and love it! the dpi shifter button is legit. mouse pad tuning made a huge difference! in the logitech gaming software did you check out the arx control? With the app you can truly on the fly change the dpi speed with out having to minimize the game to adjust it in the software. Profile swapping is nice for having one for games, one for editing, and one for internet. high dpi for games, middle for internet, and low for editing. with different profiles you have different short cut commands like ctrl+c, ctrl+v tied G7 and G8, and different commands tied to different games on different profiles. At first I was like you and a basic user, then the more i looked into it the more i liked it. my old mouse the the -new- Microsoft Sidewinder. talk about a really cool box. this mouse was BIG and i miss it. The scroll wheel/button was getting iffy.

If anyone is interested in a really great budget basic gaming mouse I totally recommend the Turtle Beach Grip 300.
I know Turtle Beach as a brand is iffy but for 20$USD this mouse is great.
The materials do feel a bit cheaper then some of the more expensive solutions out there (but with the texture they have on the mouse you will never really notice it) but other then that it has all you could want from a gaming mouse with out all those extra (and in my opinion un-neccesary) bells and whistles.
Has some setting switches on the bottom for dpi and polling and a back and forward button and that is it in terms of extras.
Also while not having that gaudy -gamer aesthetic- at least not too bad other then the red LEDs.
Also I have had no real issues with it, it is very accurate and reliable so far. (I have had it for a year now)
Plus the cable is long and braided so extra points right there.

Funny thing, I have that same mouse too, and it's best mouse I ever used. I don't use it for gaming, but actually data entry, and scrolling through 100's of pages of documents. The fact it has a mode where the top left 2 buttons act as Crtl C and Ctrl V(copy and paste) has made my job a lot easier. The 12k DPI makes it nice to switch between 2 1080p monitors quickly by barely moving an inch(very easy on my wrist when working 8 to 12 hours, and having all the weights on it helps makes it precise too. I seriously can't stand a mouse that is too light, too slow, and have a lot of friction. This mouse literally has made me $1000s in bonuses at work since I've saved a lot time and could do my job better.

My first -gaming- mouse I got came from a local Target for $15 back in 2009. I used that thing for -7 years until I bought a new one from Thermaltake. That old one still feels amazing and still works -to my knowledge-. I played through Oblivion, Fallout 3 / Vegas, Crysis, and so many other games with it.
Nowadays I use a Corsair Glaive. Best mouse I've ever touched. I love it. That no-brand Target mouse is not too far behind, though.

kinda pissed I just replaced my old 502 which was 3+ years old with a new one as its only like $50 now. Scroll wheel on new one doesnt stop right when its on free spin. If I move too fast, which honestly doesnt take much the wheel moves a bit up or down causing the screen to scroll a bit. I never liked the click scrolling as it makes the mouse vibrate, and feels weird. Only ever used it in FPS as you kinda had too. :-/

>eleven programmable buttons

I have a Razer 12-button mouse with mb4 and mb5, plus left and right scroll, and all of the regular mouse buttons, all programmable from Razer Synapse software. Sometimes I wish I had even more buttons X3
It's especially useful for the custom keybinds I have in games like League and Minecraft, as well as for mmo's. Invaluable for gamers, not absurd in the least =P

Ive got this mouse. love it! Unfortunately the software causes my PC to blue screen: (
tried to reinstall several times and the same thing happens, but uninstalling it fully stops the problem. bit annoying but due to the ability to use the mouses on board memory, i was able to put 3 profiles on the mouse with the software before uninstalling it and the mouse still can use all its functions.

Clint I have a question for you. Do you ACTUALLY play ANY modern triple A games at all? Like do you have a PS4/Xbox One? As well do you have a modern gaming PC with like an Intel Core i9 and Nvidia GTX-1080 graphics card? Also I wanna see your review of the modern Intel i9 processors and AMD Threadripper and Ryzen. I wanna hear your view on them because both are freakin AWESOME

I am a programmer and I bought this mouse brand new I have it fully weighted and its godly. now the best part about this mouse is the fact it has horizontal scrolling just by pressing against the side of the mouse wheel and a free wheeling scroll wheel which is the main reason I bought this mouse, scrolling through source code is so nice with a free scrolling wheel.
