A sports game on LGR? Why? Because nostalgia can do strange things to a man. And this second entry in the MS Baseball series brings that strangeness on

The market was flooded with baseball games at the time so this is funny now days a baseball game did not get released for the xbox one or the 360 but in 1998 there were at least 3 major titles being all star baseball ken griffey jr. baseball and Mike pizza baseball. The market continued to be flooded after that with anyone just making a game till exclusive licenses were bought by 2k sports which made it that the had the market on third party games. After this Ps released the show and eventually became the only new real baseball game of 2014 (dont know about those sill kinect titles) This is interesting because almost every year people think mets suck but the went to the world series in 2000 against the yankees so they deserved to have a player on a baseball sucky as it may be.

Great review as usual. The sad thing about sports games is that they age very poorly (with the exception of Midway's classic arcade-style titles like NBA Jam and NFL Blitz. I remember when the Dreamcast came out and they released NFL, NBA, and NHL 2K (and later, World Series Baseball 2K1. It blew our friggin minds. But nowadays those games are not nearly as impressive, and certainly not mind-blowing. (Whereas a game like Shenmue, for example, is still highly impressive.
Dreamcast was my last console and I do not have a PC that would be able to run any of the newer sports games. What is a sports fan to do? :(

Triple Play 2001 had an awesome home run derby mode called -Extreme Big League Challenge-. In this mode, not only did it reward you for the most home runs, but it also awarded accuracy, since there were several targets strewn outside the playing field to hit. My favorite was the one where you were like, 6 inches tall in someone's living room, hitting baseballs into electronics, windows, breaking pictures and stuff in the kitchen, and all sorts of silly things. It was fantastic.

I do not like sports at all really. But me and my little brother would play sports games like crazy in the late 90's and early 2000's just cause split screen games where awesome.
We never really won, but had fun just playing around with the mechanics of the game. On some football game I remember we found a glitch that let us slide around hovering on our butts, and tackling the ref was our favorite activities, and goals.

Great video! Yeah half the fun of these sports games was screwing around. I remember playing Front Page Sports Football on my PC in the 90's and turning the penalties off. I would just run my middle linebacker over behind the other teams QB and insta-sack him as soon as he snapped. Kinda wish I could have hucked the ball at his penis like you did lol, 12 year old me woulda love that (30 yr old me still does.

One thing not mentioned, if you went to the official website of the game back in those days, you could download a roster update. I haven no idea how long they kept that going, but it was confusing as hell, because you'd have to replace a specific file in one of the game's folders and sometimes the update worked, sometimes it didnt.

I remember REALLY getting into the Coleco -Bases Loaded- series back in the day. In fact, baseball games, to me at least, played better on consoles than on the PC. which is normally why the only sports games I ever did on PC were golf, and driving games. Other than that, it was shooters all the way.

I must say I am not a sports person, and I was never good at baseball. I just could not score any goals and always ended up in an off-side.
Anyway, clicked on the link in case it would give me a laugh. :)
And is it weird that here in Finland the baseball field is shaped differently? :p

Have you ever played a game called Entomorph: Plague of the darkfall? I enjoyed that game a lot and have been trying to find a copy of it since i lost the one that i had before. Please check it out if you haven't played the game yet. I would love to hear your thoughts about it.

love your review, but the graphics of this game really weren't amazing for its time at all. Check out World Series Baseball on the dreamcast. While it was released in 2001, it's still a console from 1998 and the game could have been released in 98
