Gameplay and first impressions commentary on the highly-hyped open world game, Watch Dogs, played on PC LukesterGaming: I'm actually quite surprised by all of the issues with the framerate and game itself that the PC version seems to be having, although I guess it's to be expected in today's gaming industry where often the case is that buggy/unfinished games get released to the public and result in a lot of unhappy people. you'd think they would've learned by now! That's actually the first time I've seen that 3rd person in-car/dashboard view too on Watch_Dogs: o as I've got it for the Xbox360 and that view doesn't feature on it, not sure if it does on any of the console versions, but I'd be surprised if it didn't on the PS4/Xbox One where they have superior specs to the PS3/Xbox360 obviously haha! I was at my mates recently and watched him playing it on the PS4, to which it looked graphically stunning compared to the previous-gen consoles!

Definitely not seeing the hype about this game, nor how it's interesting beyond a few gimmicks.
I'm getting pretty tired of these types of -open world- games.
When is someone going to reboot this genre and make it visually striking, in an artistic rather than -photorealistic-. as I can't help but few games like this as anything BUT creative seeing that all they're doing is tracing areas, plopping them into the game and making assets based on things already around us, or making assets inspired by things around us.
I actually think Ubisoft makes great games, when you dive into the past 5 years or so of releases, they've made some fantastic stuff.
This however just feels like a cash in on the modern setting open world genre, with a bunch of gimmicks stickied onto it.
And that's a bummer.

The biggest disappointment to me (besides the actual process of hacking and driving) is the story and overall tone of the game. The story is very predictable and cheesy and not one character is likeable (and they have the same talking pattern: Words -> walking away -> turning halfway around -> PROFOUND words -> continue walking away. They're all super stereotypical Hollywood-hackers (punk chick, dreadlock hermit, trenchcoat + baseball cap guy, asian suit guy. And Aiden is such a boring lead guy. I tried very hard to get involved with his story and sad background. I don't know why but everyone is so annoying to me.
It's like watchig a 90's action drama. In a bad way. Atleast the gameplay is fun and it tries something new. I'm (mostly) sure Ubisoft will do it (somewhat) right in the sequel.

But yeah, Watch_Dogs itself is a pretty awesome game, and gives you a unique take on the open world style of game that has been dominated by GTA and Saints Row too a bit in recent years, although Rockstar Games are mostly the king of open world games really haha! I could literally just simply walk around and hack people for their precious cash in the bank accounts, then after awhile I'll go by an ATM and reap the rewards of that, of which I nearly accumulated $100, 000 in total at one point! :o I do like just walking/driving around on games like this anyway, but at least on this one you can have a bit more fun whilst doing so: P

I read someone else's comment on reddit and I think they summed it up best, to paraphrase, this game has an identity-crises. It doesn't know what it wants to be. They tried to take the open-world of a GTA title, cram it with side-quests of a western RPG, but also have a story in the process. I would call the hacking like a mini-game, but honestly, there's nothing to it. It's effortless, and therefor feels unrewarding. I wouldn't say this game is bad, but it isn't great neither. It's just a average title you kill some spare time with. It just doesn't have the necessities to be an instant-classic you'll always go back to.

I know people have trashed this game for it's last gen graphics, but honestly I don't think they're really as bad as what people are saying. They're not terrible, and besides, isn't it the gameplay that more important? I haven't played this game yet, but I'm hoping I'll enjoy it as I've already paid good money for the PS4 version. And I don't normally buy games like GTA or Saints Row for reasons I don't really want to bring up, so you could say this is an exception of some sort. It's also one of the first two R rated games I've ever own, the other one being Wolfenstein: The New Order.

I think the main issue of the MP is the awful lag, and the fact that it's not organized at all. Once I had to hack this person who was in this huge ass complex location, where I just sat until the hack was done, whereas once I had to hack someone who was on this park that was way too open. The idea of Dark Souls like invading just doesn't work, since Dark Souls had great environments that were designed with the chance of invading being a possibility.

LGR, why are you saying in the video sub that it is -played on PC- while you are obviously not playing on PC. But otherwise, yeah, the game is cool except that there's a LOT of things you CAN'T do that you would expect on a GTA like game. Things like being able to JUMP, shoot guns while driving (at least in front of you while driving a bike, etc.
And vehicle physics isn't really great too, feels like you're driving bricks on wheels.

Never heard of this game until I saw you playing it. You were a little quiet and paused and trailed off in this video, which is a shame since we all love that amazing voice/wit of yours. Maybe next time try commentary on prerecorded footage for a game that requires this much immersion and concentration to play? I hope that helps.

-Controversy was caused a month before release when it was uncovered that at a PR event in the UK, game journalists were given free Nexus 7 tablets as gifts, a move that has been seen by many as amounting to a bribe in an effort to improve the game's review scores-
