LGR - Back to the Future II - Amiga Game Review

I love Back to the Future. But this game. RUN FOR IT, MARTY! Covers the Commodore Amiga version by Image Works and touches on the MS-DOS port Mat: The other two movie tie-in games in the Screen Gems pack were also terrible. Days of Thunder was a really slow and incredibly dull racing game so I suppose at least it was faithful to the source material, but Clive Barker's The Night Breed was substantially worse than BttF - it was the -interactive movie- version and not the slightly-better-but-still-pretty-bad arcade game, and from what I recall it was a devastatingly painful experience all round. Thankfully Shadow of the Beast II made up for the three disappointments, though, because even though it's actually not great from a gameplay perspective it at least feels like an -Amiga game-, not just a game that happens to run on the Amiga.

At least in the C-64 version, you don't have to complete either the -get Jennifer out of the house- or the puzzle level. When it asks you if you want to try again, you can select -No- and go to the next level, which is what I usually did with the puzzle. (If you beat these levels, you get an extra life or something)
There's one point in the -bad 1985- level where if you pick up the newspaper from Strickland's porch he starts shooting you immediately. If you don't pick up the paper, he waits until you walk by him and THEN starts shooting. I could never figure out how to get by without getting shot.

I got the screengems pack and although i look back on it fondly it was a bad pack compared to flights of fantasy and Batman. The only good game in it was SOTB II but only from a presentation stand point. I sorta enjoyed nightbreed because I loved the movie but all the games including Days of Thunder and this turd were terrible! Never understood why there wasn't a Turrican pack!

I had the Screen Gems pack. Wow, the games were crap. Beast 2 looked fantastic but the gameplay was absolutely horrific. Days of Thunder was monumentally terrible and Back to the Future 2 was frustratingly crap. The control system was awful and unresponsive. It had terrible physics. Needless to say I never made it past the first level.

I had about 50 copies of this game! My Dad got them at an auction because they came with a bulk load of computer parts that he wanted. He gave the games to me, as he didn't want them and I just reformatted the disks for storing my own files! Lol. The boxes were good too for storing little items. Quite a strong little box! Haha.

The intro was AMAZING. It was. with the eyes of a late teen, -As good as the movie-. and then the game began. My nephew had the screen gems pack A500+. God I wanted the hoverboarding to be good. Like any of the skateboarding, BMX or other games of the time. But no. Never got past the first level. Life was too short.

Many of these movie based games back then were shitty and barely playable. 'Lethal Weapon' and Terminator 2 rail shooter were probably the best Amiga games that were based on movies. 'Alien 3' was really good too. But most of them were just like this one. They had nice graphics but were painful to play.

Wow, I'll be incredibly fine if this game has a reboot. It'll be a chance to fix the flaws that ruin the game and even get rid of the sliding puzzles because sliding puzzles are just a bad idea. By the way, I should mention that the Master System was the first version I heard about (1-6-2020.

I have downloaded the DOS version of this game and tried to play it. breakdown of time spent:
1 or 2 minutes: trying to set up the graphics and sound
unspecified time, more than 1/2 of total spent time: figuring out how the f-ck are you supposed to control it

Yep that was the problem with the games of the 80-s and early 90-s for home computers you often felt cheated by the games that were frankly awful and there was a lot of them and the advertising for those games totally misled you
