I've got a hypothesis about both of these games since I vaguely remember playing them as a kid either at school or at a library.
Essentially, for a while back in the late 80s and 90s, state governments were handing out grants like candy to any company offering educational software to kids, and it resulted in a lot of lemons that everyone forgot, probably still sitting on 5-1/4- floppies in a file cabinet somewhere. Others resulted in companies like Davidson and Associates (of Blaster fame, The Learning Company, and Knowledge Adventure taking off.
Also the voice of one of these flies is familiar. I think the lady went on to do more stuff.

I'd say the key word in -Distributed by Maxis- is distributed. Looking through the box art scans of all -Maxis- games at Mobygames, I can only find one game with that -Distributed by Maxis- logo: Wrath of the Gods. So Maxis most likely just helped Selena get this into stores, with no involvement in the game's development or production.

Well if -L. Mathews - Reading Specialist- approves, then who am I to say otherwise?
Seriously though, 1. What makes him a -reading specialist- and not just a grade school teacher, and 2. Of course the kids are going to ask to play it every day, it's a video game! Even if it's a shitty one about reading, it's still a game!

This is the type of game that would have given me nightmares as a child, and I'm not joking when I say that. Like, seeing the art style and coloring, and especially that giant, brought back memories of a sort of flight or fight response that I got as a child whenever I saw similarly off putting character designs

Ya know that intro reminds me of a fairytale dvd thing i had once, i dont remember jack shit about it except its weird intro (obviously) where you flew through a castle and stuff with weird shiny metallic graphics and it theme music (though i might be getting that mixed up with a discworld movie)

Forget Maxis or Selena Studies, Read-A-Rama and Spell-A-Rama are such a crazy nonsensical disgrace to computer programming that I swear they programmed by Laughing Joking Numbnuts (based on the Angry Video Game Nerd's analysis of his least favourite rainbow.

The green fly with the blue cap sounds familiar; I think the same voice that can be heard in Money Town (the smaller cat I think, a game that BrutalMoose reviewed. Is it Lani Manella doing that voice?

Is it true that on the contents of the CD-ROM, the D: \READRAMA directory contained a file named MTB30RUN. EXE, does that mean it's a sign that it was made in Asymetrix Toolbook 3. 0a?
