This thing reminds me of when Microsoft tried to focus the Xbone around the concept of being a home entertainment system - rather than a gaming platform
Even back in 2003 - if you wanted to attract GAMERS - then - first and foremost - you wanted the platform to be about the -games-
If your device has PDA function - if your device has multimedia function - then, sure, that's a nice bonus - but the marketing and the form and the -function- must be focused around the gaming side of the device
And the thing is, -SONY- figured this out back in 2000 - almost four years before this thing came out - even longer if you factor in development time - -yes- the PS2 could play DVDs and CDs and a whole host of other little bennies but - end of the day - it was the games and their performance -on- the device that drove the sale.
Not a calculator and a date book xD

Can't remember the name of that other handheld that failed that was aimed at teens and had this social feature that the more people using it would daisychain the connection. Anyway why I bring it up is because this could have been so much more, if they joined together and used that networking feature, marketing this to teens as an essential for work and gaming, being able to have everything on it and multiplayer games on lunch breaks. Shame it just wasn't there at the time, but it really could have been if they didn't cut corners in areas they thought weren't important to consumers

I was around 10 at this time and I was obsessed with stuff like this. I was so excited about owning my own flip phone a few years later because it made me feel like a spy kid. I also had a very rudimentary PDA type thing that had a tiny calculator screen but had like three games and a Spanish translator. After the games got old I would spend hours translating random words to Spanish. Anyway my point is it-s a good thing my family wasn-t rich because I would have begged to own all of these if I were aware of them existing.

My best friend at the time and I bought Z2s brand new. But after less than 2 weeks of using it we both had the same failure with the joystick: it lost the -UP-. Which I remember being a common issue (I think. So we both got a refund as you couldn't play most of the zodiac games without full use of the only feature that really set it apart. Kind of surprised I didn't see anyone else mention it in your comments. I really wanted to like it! Anyway, great video!

I guess the peak of gaming handheld hands is Japanese 10 year old hands. The ps vita still feels better than the swirch controls and you can actually hit most of the buttons at the same time more comfortably. The ps vita and switch were made with tiny hands in mind first though. GB, gbp, GBC, GBA, psp were easier to use because they have controls more spaced out due to having less buttons overall even with big hands.

I always feel a tinge of pride whenever I hear that something has an ARM chip in it. My first ever computer was an Acorn Electron and I loved that old thing, but sadly Acorn (and their rivals Sinclair) ended up dying off as the American giants of IBM and Commodore rolled in and took over the PC gaming market in the late 80's. To this very day, the ARM chip is Acorns lasting legacy.

I had a Palm TX at the time and I really wanted a Zodiac, Because I could play some GBA games that I couldn't on my TX due to the same -Out of memory- error.
Had to buy an app to expand the memory. -UDMH- (Unlimited dynamic memory hack) WarpSpeed and UnCache combined to make SNES playable on the Little John Palm emulator. Those days were great!

I have a working GP2X. If you want to review it I will send it. I remember drooling over the UMPCs at the time, but only had the money for the Tapwave, Gizmondo or GP2X. It was a mini console war in my mind. Wish I knew a better way to reach you, but I would love to see an in-depth video on the GP2X.

I'll give Tapwave credit. The Zodiac is a much more aesthetically pleasing piece of hardware than the N-Gage or the Gizmodo. That's a pretty big screen for the time and the aluminum siding and rounded Y2K-era design actually looks almost kind of cool compared to its chunky taco-shaped competitors.
