FINALLY! I Got a Raiden II Arcade Machine

Grab your purple toothpaste lasers! Raiden 2 has been at the top of my most wanted list for as long as I can remember. Now this one is mine, acting as a vertical shmup JAMMA setup. The cabinet is a Dynamo HS-5, a classic in its own right, which housed tons of arcade games in the 80s and 90s. Only some of the hardware repair work is complete but we do at least install a Raiden II PCB, matching marquee, and upgrade to all-new controls in this video. More to come in the future as I gather components and tweak things, for sure!

Truly an awesome score you have there Clint. The Raiden series are some of my favourite vertical shooters as well. Played a heap of both 1 and 2 back in the 90s in a local arcade. Viper Phase 1 I only found out about a few years ago when setting up an old pc for an emulator box but I love that as well. My altime fave though would have to be Xevious followed very closely by Galaga. Also love Gyrus for it's clever circular style of shooter and awesome sound track.

I sadly moved to a smaller space and could not justify keeping it, but I used to have a Neo Geo arcade machine. It was in pretty rough shape, but it was a lot of fun to hack around on because, like you said, arcade machines largely use standardized parts that can be cheaply purchased on eBay and the like.
I am quite jealous of your Raiden machine. nice find!

As a huge shoot 'em up fan, Raiden is one of those series that I'm thankful for. It did so much to establish genre trademarks, along with Space Invaders, Xevious, and Galaga. It's also hard as hell and will eat your quarters unless you're good, haha. I remember seeing a cabinet of this game at a grocery store no less. Great video as always.

That's so awesome! One of the very best shmups of its day, and holds up quite well to this day! My unicorn is an original Tron arcade machine. If I ever actually get one, even just a remake or whatever, as long as the ROM is what I remember from Major Magic's. That was a knock-off Chuck E Cheese's in Buffalo, NY.

Clint, I still love that Missile Command cabinet! Gosh. the memories! We had an arcade in South Everett, WA called Casey's back in the 80's that charged. 05 per credit. We used to frequent that place often for birthday parties. Seeing these vintage cabinets bring back all the fun times! Thank you!

Really cool cabinet one thing I would suggest is putting some brass inserts in where you attach the PCB to the cabinet, if you're going to be switching out boards the screw holes drilled into that compressed board are going to wear out really fast.

The screen is looking pretty decent for it's age but I know it could be better, only because I've watched many of your videos about CRTs lol. Still, that is an amazing find and definitely worth buying. Can't wait to see more updates on it!

Just make sure you keep that Viper Phase 1. That's a pretty rare game. And get that chassis a cap kit, it doesn't need a rejuvenation that'll actually hurt the tube most times. A cap kit will help far more.

Awesome cab, Raiden is a great game. Gald you were able to get the one you always wanted! I have been on the hunt for an original Batman (the Atari game based on the original Keaton Batman movie)

Played it when I was younger in a bar, had too many beers and ended up smashing the screen out of frustration! I remember back in the day it cost me over 500 to the bar owner!
