. and I seriously disagree about The Black Hole being a rip off. I loved that movie and saw it twice at the theater. It was well movie that doe NOT fit on a list with the likes of Starcrash and Turkish Star Wars in it. Totally different plot, totally different sets, a great soundtrack, great effects. I remember building the models for all three of the best robots including a rusted out Old Bob. Just because it was a sci-fi movie with lasers and robots does not make it a star wars rip off and if it did there would be A LOT more movies on this list.

I saw Battle Beyond the Stars several times in theaters; once when there was no one else there but me. It was so terrible it was great. I now own it on DVD and watch it a couple of times a year. I loved that the primary spaceship was shaped like a moose head, the Valkyrie character was played by a Playmate named Sybil Danning, the Space Cowboy was played by George Peppard, who back in the day was the star of a popular TV show called Banacek, Robert Vaughn played a space mercenary but was also the original Man From U. N. C. L. E. back in the 60s, and the main protagonist was played by Richard Thomas, who was also John-boy on my dad's favorite TV show, The Waltons. An awful movie, but I loved it!

I saw Battle Beyond the Stars several times in theaters; once when there was no one else there but me. It was so terrible it was great. I now own it on DVD and watch it a couple of times a year. I remember asking my parents a lot of questions about stuff I saw in Battle Beyond the Stars_ but The Black Hole scarred me for life. My parents had it on tape and it seemed to be the go to at my after school when I was pretty young. Maximilian goring a person, selective lobotomy in The hospital, and the merging of Maximilian and the bad guy was really confusing and disturbing. what was wrong with day care administrators in the early eighties I don't want confirmed but I'm glad modern child care is as regulated as it is

I do like Black Hole as a movie. But for Disney it was a little dark for children. It was also torn between being serious picture and putting cute cartoon like robots that would appeal to kids. And the ending is kind of bizzare. People didn't know what to make of it l think. But l think the ideas and design of the ship and some of the effects make it a compelling, but not quite cohesive picture. I may be mistaken, but l believe it did okay and made a profit at the box office.

Since Canada isn't known as a science fiction hot spot - Someone who has never heard of Canada.
If you think the Robocop and Stargate series are American then I might have a news or two in your direction. They're lesser known franchises though. Ever heard of Highlander? The Outer Limits? Sliders? Earth: Final Conflict? Andromeda? Orphan Black? Yeah, they never come up at sci-fi conventions. You clearly have your finger on the pulse of modern sci-fi.

The interesting (or pathetic) thing about The Shape of Things to Come is that it featured Jack Palance, a busy but relatively unknown actor from the 50s through the 80s before he finally found fame late in life with City Slickers for which he won an Academy Award. (Oh and on the subject of weak 70s sci fi-check out his guest shot on Buck Rogers's in the 25th Century. He should have been knighted for his ability to keep a straight face!

That word. I do not thank it means what you thank it means.
I mean I love Star wars I do but many movies people tend to call rips off really just stare the same genre with Star wars and that genre being.
Campy Sci Fi cereals such as Flash Gorden and Buck Rodgers.
Star Wars was just the most successful of these. Considering that other Sci fi movies came out before Star Wars that share the same genre.

I think it's very nice of you to give that dead woman a second chance.
It's not really that shocking that BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS has some big names attached. Corman helped give a start to a lot of big names including Coppolla, Jonathon Demme, John Sayles, Ron Howard, Scorcese, Stallone etc, etc.

The japanese and the turks should have the right to Remake any US Amerikaner movie that they wish.
First dubbing or subtitling into another language always produces horrible results.
Second both turks and japanese have a Kultur that is so different from US Amerikaner Kultur.
Finally they are in a different Country. No kountry should ever be a Karbon Kopy of the USA.

At 4: 15, the Turkish Star Wars? It is SO AMUSING that the film is so dorky and confusing that neither Fox, Lucasfilm, or Disney has tried to sue for using the actual footage from A New Hope. I guess that all of them decide to see it as a student project for a student getting his MFA! If so, I give that student director a A- for the job. He shows promise! LOL
