The Real Reason Why Valerian Flopped At The Box Office Here: It was a boring movie and the leads have absolutely no chemistry not to mention some things were left unexplained to an audience that might not know details that should be important. Like why did Lorleen stick around the palace of the trunk aliens? Isn't she supposed to be a badass and intelligent person in her own right? If Bubbles was a princess than why was she a freaking slave? Also if she could change her appearance to look like absolutely anyone or anything why did she not escape sooner? Wouldn't it be easy to make herself look like a John and walk out of there to and up to any guard and say I'm a kidnapped slave and I need your help getting to my home? I mean even if she didn't think they would believe she was a missing princess they would listen to her saying she was a kidnapped slave that needed help getting out. Not everyone was corrupt enough to not listen to her.

I loved the Visuals, though they were overwhelming at times, and the ability to imagine what their universe is like outside the story. The acting and story line need alot more work. I didn't like the plot cause it has a ton of holes and seemed a bit cliche to be honest. The way the main charachters were portrayed was bad. They tried too hard to be cool and relatable, and you don't get to see their comic/written personality as much. The main guy looked like a teen and had the voice of an older adult. The girl's personality was too cardboard for me. Overall I'm more disappointed it didn't have a more stable plot and common sense. Though I did want to see more into their society too. Thank you for reading this far for my opinion and lending me your time.

I genuinely loved this movie and after the fifth element in his back catalogue alone I was guaranteed to put my cash up for tickets. My son loved it too. I even got the blu ray and I genuinely feel it was a refreshing movie among all the superhero flicks and remakes of that summer. I was really hopeful it would do well as it was originally going to be a trilogy or more, hopefully Mr Besson gets back to it at some point as I'd love to see how it continues and ends properly and I know my son would be up for it too. I love Bessons work in general but I wouldn't say I'm a fanboy as such, hes just a really bloomin good film maker and I respect the guy. P. s. The visuals in this movie are amazing and Herbie Hancock is in it too yay lol.

There was zero chemistry between the main characters. All the acting was wooden. The story was extremely predictable. There is not one original thought in the entire thing, nor one trope that was not done better in another movie or on television shows like Star Trek and Buck Rogers. There are far too many sequences that do not add to the main story for example Lorelei's kidnapping and forced wedding, the whole mess in the market, and the unbearably flat marriage thread. It had nothing to do with a lack of advertising or the competition which was only slightly less lame than this flick. The special effects are cool, but there is not one other redeeming quality to this movie.

Reason 1: No one knew it was out, promotion was almost non-existent for it. Reason 2: People that saw the previews had no idea what this movie was. No one in America or China know about the graphic novels really. Reason 3: The people that did go to see it couldn't stand Dane Dehaan. He's terrible, and not believable as the cool guy at all. He's more the dweeby high school kid no one likes because of how annoying he is with his misplaced ego.

I LOVED Valerian, thought it was fantastic, colourful, so cinematic and great CGI. Many movies over the decades have been box office failures then gone on to be cult classics, Rocky Horror Picture Show just to name one! Also these days the Cinema's are becoming more and more empty, and people wait for the movie to come out on DVD/Blu Ray or more often download it or watch it on platforms like Netflix and so on!

The visuals were amazing as hell and still is. The love story between these two is kind of boring and felt like it didnt needed to be there but was there to get some teens to come see it even tho they didnt know shit about the source material just as a bunch of people didnt know about it. I think if they tried to get the mass majority of people familiar with the source material I think it wouldnt have flopped

I only saw Valerian today, never read the comics (although did look at it before watching the film, so most of the points mentioned here is null and void in my case. And lemme tell ya: it was SHIT. The clingiest, most cheesiest acting combined with the plot what was cliche at best part and absolutely disoriented at worst. As for the acting, I saw better work done in Power Rangers.

It failed because the leading actors were miscast. I have read the comics and Valerian is a mature and rugged guy. not some thin 50 kg teenager. who is supposed to be a badass with experience and skill. just ridiculous to cast those two in this movie. no wonder it flopped. the visuals are stunning and with two grown ups in the lead it would have done much better.

Valerian and the City of a 1000 Planets is a very mediocre film. Impressive as the vfx are, this movie is a generic hash of 5th Element, Star Wars, and Star Dreck. The two main characters are unlikable.
If you like Phantom Menace you might like this movie. Good enough for 12 year olds, everyone else stay away!
Cara Delevigne sucks as an actress.
