The age gap between Jared Leto and the kid playing Bruce Wayne IS extremely odd. But these theories are almost always wrong. Movie studios, unlike comic publishers are WAY less likely to do weird experiments with character's back stories because even cheap movies are expensive to make when compared to comic books. Plus comic book fans are used to alternate universes where back stories are created and then retconned.
The actual explanation for the age gap is probably more simple: this was always intended to be a stand-alone crime thriller focusing on the Joker. It doesn't matter that Bruce Wayne is so young because this Joker was never going to fight Batman anyway. They could have cast an actor in his twenties for the role, but when you're doing a character study movie you want a heavyweight talent like Phoenix, and there are few, if any, actors in their twenties with that kind of skill

He is the Joker but different universe. Go in to this movie to enjoy a great performance, fun dramatic story and you will love it, but think this will be the joker we all know and love well. the jokes on you. In this universe my guess- Tomas Wayne is the villain and the joker becomes upses with him due to a odd relationship of some sort. My opinion the Best way to Describe this film Is this Joker movie is basically a series version of Wicked - But the joker is the witch of the west. Until the end when he crosses the line and the world sees how MAD he is most likely sending him to Arkham. Just a observation. Well all I do know for certain the box office will get the last laugh.

This theory, to me, doesnt make sense. If you remember in the Batman with Val Kilmer i think or one of the many Batman movies back then, they cut to a scene where its the Joker without any makeup at all and its about 25 years old. Hes the one who actually killed Bruces parents plus age honestly wouldnt make a difference. Say Bruce is young in this at 12 years old, it only would be 15-20 years until he is taking over his family business and say Phoenix plays a mid 20s joker, then even if hes in his 40s or mid 30s that works too. In Batman video games, the joker comes off to be really ill looking and old so hopefully someone of you stans can make something of what i said.

Im so damn tired of these hes not the real joke theories like dammit does it ever stop. Gotham: Jerome is the maniac that inspired the joker
Suicide Squad: The joker could possibly be Jason Todd and heres why
Joker Standalone Theories might suggest that Joaquin Phoenix isnt the real joker
Like dammit imagine how you would feel if read theory suggest that Bruce wayne parents faked their deaths every time we got a new Batman version. Has anyone else noticed that ever since Heath portrayed the role each person thats taken thee role theres always a theory that the person who is actually the joker isnt the real joker. and yes Ive watched Gotham season 4

But the thing is, the joker isn't a specific person. It's a disease or an entity. Joker isn't a specific person it's literally a representation of unstableness like how the jokers say. We have very different jokers every time and they all have different backstories because it's not one specific person. Most people believe it's a curse from the God of laughter as many superheroes got their powers from God's and powerful things. These theories really annoy me because people are still trying to figure out who the real joker is, but the joker is just a visual representation of illness and loss.

Let's be honest then. Nicholson, Ledger, Romero, Leto, Monaghan, or Phoenix aren't the REAL joker then. And no, the Joker is not a symbol, not just anybody can be him. the same with Batman. Don't believe me, read a comic. Grayson, Todd along with Azrael were just wannabes. The Joker didn't have a through and through origin story til' The Killing Joke. And none of the above's movies were based on that origin. So none are the real Joker. Til a comedian who loses his wife comes along, they're all in different universes.

Is anyone else of the opinion, if this rumour is true, that THE Joker who does end up plaguing Gotham and Batman is really belittled by the concept that he's just a copycat crook riding the coat tails of an original. Sure, Joker might be an idea, but that idea is HIS. He's supposed to be the culmination of Gotham's insanity, not a continuation of it. It's not a passing the torch Green Goblin thing. or if it is, I don't think it does service to the character.
Just my two cents.

I mean its pretty easy to infer that its definitely not going to be any of the Jokers that we have seen adapted to film because the age gap would be too severe. I think this is going to avoid connecting any prior or past films and just make a thrilling, creepy, heartbreaking movie about a failed comic who loses his mind and goes to the extremes. Having Bruce's dad be one of the main characters (allegedly) would be a super unique way of making it. I cannot wait personally
