How Black Panther Changed The Oscars Forever TheRepty818: What I don't think the angry comic book fans understand, I agree that Infinity War was a better comic book movie, but the old dudes who decide who gets and Oscar aren't into that. They want films like Shindler's List. Films that tackle sociopolitical issues are the types of films that win. What do Moonlight, Brooklyn, Shape of Water, GreenBook, Parasite, Get Out, Three Billboards all have in common. These are movies that tackle sociopolitical movements. Black Panther did that and the other movies didn't. The Dark Knight did, and honestly, it should have been nominated, but that was over 10 years ago now. The landscape has changed and Superhero movies can get nominated. Hopefully, we see more, but there's no point in trashing Black Panther because you're angry.

Nah, just confirmed that the oscars are a joke and that best pictures means nothing. Whats next? The fast and the furious 12 gets nominated? Black panther was okay, its based on an overused story ark about the hero being almost killed by someone from his past that wants revenge for something the hero wasnt aware of, by the end of the movie the hero defeats the villain. The end. Nothing ground breaking here uness youve never seen a movie or read a book in your life. The action is pretty much the same as you get with any big budget action movies nowadays. 2/10 for originality. Its a movie worth watching if you like action and simple stories, but thats nothing close to worthy of any serious award.

all this bickering over a single movie. i have zero problems with either dark knight or black panther getting the attention they got, both were unique in their own way and i honestly don't understand the comparison. to be honest take heath ledger out of the dark knight and imagine the outcome(christian bales ridiculous voice, he practically carried the whole movie all i wanted to see was the joker nothing else. black panther was a collective effort with great peformances from the cast, some loved t'challa some loved shuri, some loved nakia, everyone loved killmonger hence it got more recognition, turn off your racist cards and think objectively

Black Panther IS Oscar-worthy based off of the impact it left globally in pop culture. It is already a classic the sound track alone won a Grammy. In my honest opinion, this movie was truly amazing. I had to wait MONTHS to finally get a copy of Black Panther on DVD, because it was sold out in retail stores multiple times in my area. People wanted to own a piece of this movie not simply in digital form that is saying something. Overall commerical success and global cultural impact makes Black Panther Oscar-worthy.

Oh my god, BARF! Sorry, but this movie was mediocre at best. First off action movies never make it past nominations for anything other than special effects. And even amongst action sci-fi movies this one wasn't even that good. The storyline was kind of lame, a lot of the acting was terrible (except for Chadwick Boseman, I really liked his performance) This was not even remotely an Oscar worthy movie much last best picture. Sadly this can be chalked up up to cinematic affirmative action.

i've said this countless times before, but feel the need to say it again. black panther is an amazing film, but it is not oscar worthy whatsoever. There are so many superhero films that are far more deserving of an academy award nomination and/or win, and black panther just doesn't make an appearance on that list. The Dark knight, Logan and Captain America: The winter soldier (although the last one is debatable) should've been considered more so than black panther imo

I'm really confused. Why are so many people shitting on the movie now that it won an Oscar? That's what people said when it came out, This movie deserves an Oscar.
My classmate called me a racists when I said that there was absolutely no way that Black Panther would beat Infinity War when it came to ticket sales.
So was everyone just to overhyped about it? Or afraid of what people would say if you thought diffrent?

The whole reason this movie is even nominated was a black/ white no matter what everyone says. That alone is disgusting. Oscars should be about skill and story not skin color. I have zero respect for the Oscars now. Also no matter what anyone says Black Panther was NOT that good. Even black people say this! What was once a proud award is probably on the level with the MTV awards now. Sad

It hasnt changed anything, rather it has revealed what we already knew. The politically correct, racist assholes in hollywood wanted to seem inclusive. This movie was AVERAGE AT BEST!
Give everyone a trophy, and make sure we get a black film included no matter what.
Giving out trophies because you have an agenda makes the trophy WORTHLESS. Disgusting.

It really didnt. BP was nominated because it had a 99% black cast, no other reason. This isnt gonna lead to more superhero movies getting nominated or anything like that. Endgame could get amazing reviews, and will probably be considered by fans to be better than BP, (like infinity war) but you better bet it has 0 chance of getting a best picture nomination.
