Game Of thrones Art Director Defends Coffee Cup Gaffe google+exgreecian: HBO should really go to no drinks on set. Third time is not the charm. In most cases the sets look perfect, but the slips predate the appearance of starbucks. In the craster's keep episode, when everything is going to shit, we see city lights behind the trees. The sense of being at the last outpost in a vast tundra landscape was ruined for me by a person who pointed this out. That I missed it the first time (and pretty much all the reviewers did) is a case of selective attention. It is one riveting show and the city lights can be seen at a peak moment. My assumption is that the directors and staff knew about it (they had to have seen it in post) and made the decision to have the effects team work on exciting visual effects rather than taking lots of points of light in the distance, and that may be the case with the hidden water bottle as well. In the case of the tall coffee shop beverage, I kind of doubt it.

Ive done work in the film industry. These people work crazy long hours so it's totally understandable to me how everyone missed the coffee cup in production after a 16+ hour day. What surprises me is how the entire post production (editing) team missed it! These are people who do detailed work on each individual shot. Someone had to have seen it they probably just didn't want to put in the work to fix it.

I swear the moment that coffee cup showed up ALL immersion built up over 8 seasons and almost a decade was instantly _shattered_. I no longer felt like the show was based off a true story everything else for the remainder of the season just came off soooo unrealistic, then I started questioning the authenticity of the entire show. Like how many other scenes were just special effects?

Why are you saying its Emilia's? cant you guys see its not in front of her, its in front of the seat of the person who would sit next to her. Which is Kit in the other scenes. Its either his or someone elses. Its more likely Maisie's or even Lena Heady's because of that placement. And yes I know they are not even sharing sets.

if Strabucks payed for this it would literally be the most expensive commercial in the history of PR, and they got it for free lol. but it kind of goes perfect with the level of production this show has fallen to in last 3-4 seasons. when Martin's input was over so was all attention to quality, details and good writing

Things like coffee cups on tables are so ubiquitous our brains just accept them as supposed to be there, especially if you've been on set for 12 hours with them everywhere. Should have been caught in the edit, but people need to chill out. I thought it was hilarious.

It's insulting to longtime fans. It sends a signal that the creators are either phoning it in, or are deliberately making a joke out of it because it's 'too popular' and they want to show their hipster art school friends how 'subversive' they are.

I hope they get a break, it was just a coffee cup. The episode was amazing and I think after 55 consecutive nights of shooting theyre entitled to error. I love the show and appreciate the work. I hope they keep it up with the next series! All love!

Actually, the same coffee cup appears TWICE. They may have edited out the second, major one, but they left the first brief appearance of the cup when it is located between Bran and Sansa on the table at 14: 32-34 in the same episode.

Well it was already an ad and guess what.
It worked a little globally.
the interesting trick/twist point or the will-be-legendary-devil-detail was; it was not even their paper cup.
Sshh! Dont wake the genii-geniuses.
