The Real Reason Star Trek 4 Was Canceled

1. Find the right casting for a A-List director. J. J. Abrams has always admitted he loved Star Wars more than Star Trek. In my opinion, I would have brought Christopher Nolan (Gene Roddenberry style) or Joss Whedon (because of his Firefly cult status) in the game.
2. Enter multiple universes in the same saga. Why not have all generations of Star Trek in the same movie since time travel is often great for Star Trek plots.
Reboot the whole thing. Have a 4 part saga instead of a trilogy.
Christopher Nolan directs the Original Series crew version
Joss Whedon directs the Next Generation crew version
Neill Bloomkemp directs the Deep Space Nine crew version
Denis Villeneuve directs the Voyager crew version
There is enough great material in Star Trek to have amazing movies done. They have to respect the Roddenberry spirit (content, innovate visually (that's why you need top notch directors) and let Star Trek be Star Trek and not obey the Hollywood mombo jumbo they tried to shove down our throats for the past 3 movies.

Ok so here is my take on this video. While they all fall under the same theme sifi Star Trek is much closer to real life possibilities than just a fictional make up. The idea of going to space and explore has alot of potential as for the marvel and DC universe they take it up a notch to make up stuff and not actual possibilities. I don't see Star Trek and Avengers within the same light. Infact when Avengers, Justicr League and several others have stopped Star Trek will still be there putting along with its loyal fans. Making new stuff. Star wars came close to possibilities that Star trek have however its bvb a story line that will and has ended. A new captain, another crew, different view, new technology, new inhabitants to see and learn from, space folding time travel and the list goes on. While the focus is on the current actor of the captain of the Enterprise he can be easily forgotten with a well placed story line and a new crew that falls in line once the follow in the footsteps of the greats. Again I say there is not much to compare. Star Trek will rise again

Discovery is largely reviled by long-time Star Trek fans and hasn't attracted the new viewers they had hoped. As for critical acclaim of the first reboot movie, Roger Ebert, arguably the world's most respected critic, pointed out it's MANY MANY flaws. Check out his review for a good take on why the movie was at best mediocre and many respects not very good Star Trek.

It's flawed to base potential ST4 on CBS paid viewership. There are two problems with what they are doing. #1) paying for show-after-show-after-show. Not gonna do it with a 170 monthly cable/internet bill. #2) Also not really interested in another female-led series (which requires at least some kick-butt stories) or Picard as an old man (tho TNG was really good after it's first year. Not being able to get Pine makes me a bit pissed at Pine. Daniel Craig has been a challenge -- but doesn't let HIS fans down. Like Bond, the newest ST movies are the best. Still hoping for more. Star Wars plots are narrow/lame. ST is way better!

Bottom line. After the less than stellar performance of ST 3 the studio didn't think that ST 4 would be very successful so, even though Pine and Hemsworth both already had contracts with the studio for ST 4 with an agreed on amount of, the studio insisted on renegotiating with a smaller amount of for both. Neither one was willing to take a cut in salary since they could both make more money elsewhere. A real disappointment for me but can't say as I blame the two of them because the studio was just trying to pass any risk off on two actors who were, by then, important, even vital to the franchise.

Oml why cant star trek just accept that prequels and remakes dont work, the first prequel (enterprise) wasnt very well received and neither were the 3 remake movies, and the amount of fans that dont just dislike but hate discovery is very high, i know theyre trying to keep the franchise alive but they have to notice the chain which connects all of the badly received series together.

It's time to retire Star trek - permanently. Let it go. Plenty of new sci-fi to be be filmed. Check out Piers Anthony's The Adept Series Technology vs Magic. Incredible! Unfortunately, this generation of producers and directors aren't up to the creative task. So let's all go back to books and comics until a new generation of creative geniuses rise from the ashes of Hollywood.

Their is someone imo who could play the roll of Kirk even as well as William Shatner. Matt Damon! He has that same charisma as William Shatner and being the age that Matt is right now would be a good time, also they should higher Nicholas Meyer to be the director since he was the director of The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country.

I don't care what anybody says. Those 3 reboots of Star Trek were excellent. They need to do the reboot of the whales story now. They did it with Kahn so they can do it with the whales. plus it is easy to write Checkov out of the series since it is a whole new timeline(Kelvin. Jaylah could easily replace him. That's how I see it.
