Once Upon A Time In Hollywood's Bruce Lee Actor Responds To Outrage DynomitePunch: i think people are taking it too seriously, and are missing the point entirely, it's an overexageration of what hollywood was in the sixties and seventies, now bruce was a respectable martial artist, and was ahead of his time with his ideals and concepts, he was also a bit confident and could be a little cocky from what i've read, not nearly to the point in this movie however, but that's just it, this movie is a ONCE UPON A TIME movie, just about every american movie that's started with once upon a time is supposed to be over exaggerated and rediculous, audiences don't realise that, i mean lookit cliff, he lives in a trailer behind a drive thru, working for a semi famous movie actor, his views on things are a bit scewed, i think the film is told from his point of view, and in his point of view he views himself as a paragon, like when he just free runs to the roof to fix the antena, or when he hears bruce bad mouthing ali, now bruce would obviously never nor had he ever in recorded video badmouth anyone like that, infact he glorified modern fighting and badmouthed traditional martial arts more, but i think what were seeing is the show in CLIFF's eyes, he's a paragon, humble stunt double working for a high and mighty whiney movie star, he hear's bruce talk about how much he respects boxing, probly criticizes one little thing ali did, but in cliff's MIND he's talkin mad shit, and cliff, being a hollywood man from the sixties, would be INCREDIBLY racist towards bruce and probably skeptical that such a small guy could fight, the entire encounter, in fact the whole movie i think is meant to be told and overly glorified through cliff's mind, so all of it is either overly exaggerated if not entirely fabricated, so no, i'm not offended, because ITS A MOVIE IT AINT REAL, why don't people get so aggitated at shows like iron sky where the nazias on the moon kidnap a black man and turn him white, cuz it's A MOVIE it isn't real, damn people didn't care when Ip Man did LITERALLY the same thing with bruce, making him a cocky dick and then having donnie yen best him it's crazy how much idolization can make people rabbit, all the love and respect to bruce, and his family, but it's a movie and bruce was a man, a GREAT man, but still just a man

QT is considered to have 160 IQ, but he lost 100 points on this decision and missed opportunity to show his admiration and respect for Bruce Lee on screen. And yes, Bruce was even investigated after they found his glasses at the Tate house, but Bruce said, if I was there, they would not have succeeded. so in a way, the character Brad played even stole that glory away from Bruce. wuz up QT? I like most of your great stories and characters in his cinematic canon, but this choice makes me wonder if he just gender and race swapped Uma and gave glory to The Bride in Kill Bill. which i still like to consider an homage. how can everyone in Bruce Lee's camp from Shannon, Inosanto and Kareem all say QT did it wrong? Does deep research mean he goes into the mind of QT and 2nd hand inferences and it is suddenly correct and brilliant without first hand knowledge. I mean I am also an Ali fan and I know Bruce remarked Ali and others made being a boxer and fighter cool. not to mention Bruce has a faster recorded punch and kick speed. Even Brad did a version of Lee in fight club. maybe Tyler Derden should have beat up the fictional mason family. QT almost made their elusive charlie more redeemable as sociopath leader and villain in comparison. Pray that Bruce was never a villain in any of his films. That is the point and as the ultimate film buff of that era, QT should have known that about Bruce. come on. all those points, unless u wanted bad press or to make Lee look bad, they should pull his Bruce Lee expert card. C'MON, too bad Bruce can't hit back but i am glad his loyal fans do! Bruce did not even sport that look in the Kato era. Not cool, sir. not cool QT

Everyone seems to forget.
that Fight in the movie NEVER actually happened.
Firstly. the movie, apart from locations and some characters were not real and didnt play out how history tells us.
Also the Brad Pitt fight was only in the imagination Of Brad pitts character whilst fixing a roof.
He imagines how it would play out IF he took a job on set where Bruce lee was filming Green Hornet, and clearly wasnt a fan. after the imaginary fight, it cuts back to Pitt on the roof. shaking his head, to say Yeh, i shouldnt do that job cuz that will happen knowing hes got a few issues and bad reputation
with the Studio.
You actually see bruce Lee in other scenes where hes nice and helping other actors. (which happens for real, in the movie)
So the fight wasnt Bruce lee, it was Pitts characters Impression of him.

Do not disrespect Sifu Lee. A dead man cannot hit back. Shameful to portray him in such a way. And anyone saying Bruce would not to be able to fight in the UFC based on his physique needs to understand that Bruce is a master of adaptation and improvisation. If he needed to bulk up even further and put on more weight to be competitive, he would have done so when necessary and trained accordingly. In 1-2 years, he would have accomplished even more greater feats had he not passed. Don't compare current fighters today from a fighting competition that did not even exist when Bruce passed. Much of mixed martial arts and its groundwork was because of Bruce Lee.

I'm disappointed in the mockery of Bruce Lee, one of the most bad ass and influential actors in the world. Asians, especially men, were historically depicted in a pretty racist, stereotypical way that poked fun at their looks and accents/broken english but then came along Bruce Lee who in many ways helped assert masculinity/ attractiveness for Asian men. In this film, he was diminished down to a caricature, and a pretty insulting one at that. BUT, I understand the sentiment of fans who enjoyed the scene, I just don't agree with it. At the very least we should all agree that Moh was not even CLOSE to being shredded enough to play Bruce Lee

I feel like people are taking the movie way too seriously. Is a movie is not real at all we all know bruce lee is a awesome master and he had a great character. He was a amazing human being who was constantly improving to be the best he could be ignoring all external technique. Like Bruce said himself in one of his books he never meant to influence you or to believe his philosophy but rather take his teachings as a guide to make your own discovery. I do agree the movie made him look like a fool and it was disrespectful but again is just a movie.
If you truly know how Bruce was like theres no need to be upset.

Looper missed the criticism of this scene, and didnt address it. It wasnt the fighting prowess of Bruce that made audiences angry, but the arrogance portrayed by Bruce in this scene. I for one, do not think that this scene went overboard portraying Bruce as arrogant. Considering the era, it is more likely than not, that Bruce HAD to be arrogant in selling his fighting skills to Hollywood. If he had been a quiet, humble guy, then he would have been passed over by someone that convinced directors he was better. Just my opinion.

I question Tarantinos motives as to why he would try his utmost to smear Bruce lees character with this complete BS. Says a lot about him the person. After this film Ive lost all respect for Tarantino. He should be ousted from Hollywood. I get its only fiction, thats what he would say, but why do it? Has he lost his ability to tell a good story without coming up with something like this. As a filmmaker he should hold his head in disgrace. Deserving for every film he makes from now on, to flop when the audience watch it.

The bottom line is people have a habit of exaggerating the talent, impact etc of people they admire. Particularly if those people happen to die young and tragically. They never grow old and feeble, they never lose their looks and their prowess, be it as a singer, actor, fighter become wildly exaggerated and they inspire an army of fanboys who pick up their banner to carry as if by doing that some magic will rub off on them. Examples? James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Bruce Lee, John Lennon.

Well, which was it. .. was he a God to you or was he a superhero? Or was it like Thor, a superhero-God? This movie is based on reality, it is not reality. It's like. .. Hollywood, right? Tarantino honored Bruce Lee as a human, flawed as we all are. I do not perceive any disrespect and Lee's inclusion to the period piece demonstrates Lee's societal importance/impact. Not to minimize Lee's daughter's feelings, from a fan of this movie, this issue seems to be mountain out of a molehill.
