Rey is Leias daughter.
When leia was on the first death star dna was taken from her as part of the interrogation.
When Palertine found out that leia was lukes sister and Darth Vaders daughter he decided to use her dna with his own to create a heir to his throne. The cloning process was used to make this a reality but had many failed attempts. Please poke holes in this one.
Second idea is that Mara Jade is Reys mother as in Legends she is Palertines right hand.
Mara Jade was given lukes hand and used the dna to create a child. Rey.

Im surprised someone didnt mention that the old palp could have been controlling the really tall robot looking thing and or be half machine and half human. and also isnt the force supposed to balance light and dark or something. So if they want to stay true to that then then end of the movie ren would have to go from light to dark in a emotional time where the light is taking something away from her that the dark wont. I mean the light side cant win at the end of half time and 4th quarter. Lol

Qui Gon and Obi Wan were able to successfully turn into force ghosts in seconds, so it's not far fetched to say Sidious (one of the most knowledgeable and powerful force users, especially compared to qui Gon and obi Wan) is able to do the same thing. Not only that, but it's known in Canon that some force ghosts/spirits/essences are bound to certain artifacts, such as helmets or masks. Furthermore, by simply touching a mask or wearing it, that force essence can take over a person's body.

Palpatine prepared a body for him to return into when he created Rey. That's why she could use several force powers without any training in The Force Awakens. She is like a Child of The Emperor from SWTOR. In the trailer, Rey is facing Darth Sidious inside her own consciousness when he makes his move to take over her body. The whole parents thing is a fake memory he implanted in her when he hid her away in case of his death.

The answer was in Episode III when Palpatine directly said he learned how to cheat death with his master, and then killed him outright so as to keep the secret to himself. this has long been the plan to end the saga. Everyone crying and whining cuz they didnt like how well Star Wars matured (unlike their own selves) and thinking this has anything to do with Disney or JJ could not be more wrong.

Rey and Kylo Ren defeat palpatine, severing his head. But he was still alive achieving immortality, but realizing that he would suffer forever without a body, he begged for death but he could not die; so palpatine stopped thinking.

Al this is already know and has been explained by him having clones of him self on Byss in a secret cloning lab so that if and when he is killed/dies he can transfer his essence to a clone back on Byss
