They didn't pull any footage from the original shining. They painstakingly recreated multiple sets and shots. It's obvious that Doc Halloran was killed in the first shinning and he is speaking with Danny post death. Flannigan confirmed this change from the book to stay in line with the first movie, while still having the character appear in a similar way as in the book.

Doctor Sleep deserves WAY more credit than whatever paltry box office it delivered. It is an excellent sequel to a horror masterpiece.
Watch. in a few years it will become a cult hit and compared in kind alongside The Shining.

There is some incorrect information in this video. There is no footage from the original shining film. The footage was all re-shot to look like it with new actors.
