This is why I believe the events. or at least some. did occur and are not just in Arthurs mind. The fact they had scenes made from the point of view of other characters that never made the final cut makes it harder to say it all just happened in his head. Suggests to me the writer was not thinking or trying to make the whole thing an illusion and some events did occur. Also they have spoken about wants to possibly do a sequel. be hard to make a sequel to a movies events that never actually happened.

If he killed Sophie that would've made her daughter an orphan just like Authur. This happened after he found out the truth about his mother, that little girl could've been adopted by someone just as bad as Penny Fleck and the cycle would continue. Plus Sophie was really kind to Authur in and out of his fanasty. He just stormed out of her apartment in rage and sadness because the last person who could've stop him from going down the road as the Joker was nothing but a delusion.

If it was a design choice to show the entire movie from the perspective of Arthur/Joker (or as if he was telling the story) then what is it about the scene where Bruce Wayne's Parents get shot by a random guy in a clown mask. Either Arthur must have witnessed the Scene in some way, or maybe someone told him about it, but that seems kinda out of the air!
Maybe he just imagined thats how it happened, because of his hatred of Thomas Wayne.

I never thought that Arthur killed Sophie, not only for the reasons given in this video. Some believe that he did on the basis of there being flashing police lights in Arthur's apartment once he returned from Sophie's. That would have mean't that the cops arrived in record time. Clearly Arthur lived in a rough area and so the cops were probably responding to a different incident.

Todd Phillips wanted every scene to be from Arthur's perspective, so they cut the scene which would've shown Sophie at home watching the talk show. BUT the scene where Martha and Thomas are killed doesn't include Arthur, so technically that isn't his perspective. Love this movie though. It's a masterpiece and Joaquin's acting is phenomenal

They cut the scene showing her alive watching the Murray Franklin show as they wanted every scene to be portrayed from Arthur's perspective; in the final trailer you see him walking down the hall with his wand/flowers in his Joker getup, which was part of the scene they cut. Originally he was going to leave the flowers outside her door.

Nah. She dead. He was sitting in his underwear laughing(he told Murray that killing is funny to him) and an ambulance is heard in the background. Joker kills women and children. He also told Murray he doesn't believe in anything. Meaning he doesn't have some code he goes by.

I think more than anything, the scene where he's storming out of her apartment, is him cementing that there is no possible happy ending for him. He's abandoning any chance at a normal/healthy life, and he's more or less damned to the path he's on.

In a movie filled with heartbreaking, terrifying scenes, the last scene with Sophie is the scene that will stay with me forever. Imagine in your despair, someone you thought you were close with was not even around during rare times you were truly happy
