Actors Who Refused Roles In Lord Of The Rings Wong: I remember I read somewhere on Wikipedia that actor Sam Neill who is best known as Dr Alan Grant in Jurassic Park was originally auditioned to play the role of Arwens father Elrond the elf. But he turned down because he already signed on to do Jurassic Park 3. However, I think Sam Neill did the right thing because Hugo Weaving is the perfect choice to play Elrond plus Hugo Weaving does look like an elf. Although Hugo Weaving is still famous for his role as the villain Agent Smith in The Matrix trilogy. Besides, Sam Neill already played the wizard Merlin in the miniseries Merlin.

SORRY, BUT MIRANDA OTTO almost ruined Return of the King for me. She's gorgeous but I absolutely hate how uncoordinated and unathletic she is. Her movements in the battle scenes are cringeworthy for their awkwardness. You can tell she was the supernerd in school who grew up to be hot- but she still moves like a nerd who's uncomfortable as a badass. You can tell Peter Jackson did a buttload of takes with her. That scene where Eowyn kills the Witch King would have been monster huge if you had Uma Thurman doing her Kill Bill moves.

Aragorn: DDL would have been very good, going by Last of the Mohicans, but I suspect that's exactly why he didn't want Aragorn, because he'd already done the long haired, wilderness savvy, romantic lead thing. Crowe has the acting chops but doesn't have the fine features like high cheekbones, sculpted nose etc for the noble handsome Aragorn look - he's too round faced and ordinary looking. Nic Cage of course would have been a train wreck - I can't believe he was even considered.

Plummer would be great as Gandalf but Sean no, i love Sean but no. Ian was perfect for the role. Day- Lewis would be great in Lord of the rings but not as Aragorn. OMG Cage as Aragorn or Neo in Matrix, that would be terrible. But agree Cage was hot at that time but no, he only do B movies. Crowe would actually work for the part. Winslet would work in the movie. Xena should just be Xena.

I think Uma would play a better Galadriel than Lucy lawless. idk why Lucy was even considered for the role. her acting might be ok but she does not have the right bone structure at all. Her face is round and she is a little stout to be an elf. I could see her portraying Eowyn before Galadriel. Uma has an other worldly look about her that seems more elvish to me.

Isn't it odd that none of these actors could've done a better job than the original cast did!
The Lord of the Rings cast perfectly fits their roles as if each was born to play their part and their acting made it a timeless classic as if it was the providence method to honor the professor's work in the best way possible.

Makes me think, maybe these actors didnt turn it down because of selfish reasons. But because they just felt like they couldnt live up to the role in the movie. Gotta take your hat off to those who allowed someone better to step up. These movies were incredible and still are outstanding.

Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor (Who) was offered Gandalf. When he found out it was 3 years in New Zealand he told them to %& &. Tom is not a people person lol
Jackson is a classic Doctor Who fan and later cast the 7th Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, as Radagast the Brown.

Lucy Lawless was on Xena: Warrior Princess when filming started in 1999. Her show ran till 2001. Her baby had nothing to do with it. And she's done great shows & movies since Xena ended. Spartacus for one.

Galadriel: Lawless was too beefy and chunky looking for the role. Sorry, she doesn't have the flawless features that fit that part. Perfect for a strong tough female warrior, not an elven queen.
