The Untold Truth Of Star Trek: Voyager
video description
Seven, the Borg and the Doctor have a lot of story potential, but the others have too: Chakotay for example is a character, who fits perfectly into the old Roddenberrian style: he adds a human culture to the bridge that has not been presented yet. In TOS there are Americans, Russians, a Scot, Black Americans, Japanese People, Vulcans, TNG has the European Captain, and the Klingon, and then Voyager adds a Native American, which is great. But then he does nothing but standing in the background saying aye Captain.
I can understand that Beltran felt not challenged at all.
The problem of Voyager is that they had a lot of potential (maybe even more than the other series, but they wanted to open up to mainstream audience: Somerhing that TNG never did.

After watching Deep Space 9, Voyager just looks like trash. The characters and the writing are in a completely different stratosphere in DS9, it's no contest. You can't just have the Asian, The Native American, The Black Vulcan. not that I don't appreciate diversity, on the contrary you can never have too much, but the characters themselves need to be well-written and have depth. Remember, a strong character means a strongly written character. You can't just constantly throw minorities at the screen and call it good, it's insulting. As far as I'm concerned this show embodies everything that's wrong with television and movies today.

Janeway has always been one my fav Captains, right up their with Picard. I do wish we see one last Voyager movie or tv-made movie, but that prob never happen. They just need get Q ( John de Lancie) and good script/Story and I'm sure it would be good. The fact Q wasn't part of Picard tv series is prob why it has failed, Along with Alex Kurtman and staying with BS JJ star trek timeline needs be thrown out imo. Rather have Seth McFarlane buy Star Trek IP name.
Picard series has been TRASH imo. Alex Kurtman does not know Star Trek. Jonathan Scott Frakes would prob agree to direct it.

Honestly, this was the most painful series to watch for me. The only good things about it was Jeri, half of the Borg episodes (some were meh, Tuvok (best Vulcan imo) and the Doctor. The rest was so bad and boring I barely managed to get through it. Neelix was as bad as Jar Jar, can't even express how much he irritated me. Tom Paris was supposed to be such a rough bad boy judging from his backstory, but was such a lame and soft cupcake. DS9 is by far the best series, even though it's such an obvious Babylon 5 rip-off.

I thought Janeway a good character. But a poor captain when it came to her interpretation of the prime directive.
She insisted on a absolute (almost fundamentalist) approach to the prime directive whenever bending it even slightly (in a way Starfleet probably wouldn't have objected to) could have saved her ship & crew from an enormous amount of grief.
But then she was perfectly willing to throw the entire thing out the window whenever she wanted to stick her nose into some alien culture.

I'll say this. I been trying to binge Voyager, the first three seasons were uninspiring, boring and lacked good writing. Season 4 and the show gets instantly good. Felt like there were new writers, most of the story lines didn't feel like it took place in the Holodeck, and the pacing was so much better. If Jeri Ryan's 7 of 9 was the cause of this newly inspired season then thank goodness.

I have watched every episode of every Star Trek variation at least a dozen times. And I still watch them. Sometimes I just have it on in the background because the voices feel like family to me. Am I weird for saying that?

It always felt to me that they resolved the starfleet and marquis members too quickly. You could have gone a lot further with that idea and developed it into something fascinating but they all just fell in line.

Poor Captain Janeway, would never have guessed that 300 years in the past there would be a Crazy far-left communist, primaries-abuser, congresswoman saying she inspired her.
