Martial Arts Actors Who Don't Even Have A Black Belt
video description
I do however owe martial arts for some of my success. I needed two more classes to graduate from college. (six semester hours. I had taken weightlifting and tennis. For my last six units I chose judo. I in fact won the medal as the school heavyweight judo champ. No black belt but I after graduation I got a job as a Youth Guidance Counselor (a kind of prison guard for bad kids. They liked to hire ex-football players but I played basketball. So I took my Judo medal to the job interview. My only direct benefit of all my education. Judo was good for me.
But I didn't know Judo in any real sense. I was the best heavyweight because almost no one in judo is big. Like movie martial arts it's designed for smaller guys. I was 6'4 and about 275 lbs. I didn't really need a self defense skill. I used to get beaten up in Junior High when I was 5'6. But I outgrew the bullies. And of course I don't drink in bars. My last real fight was in a basketball ruckus in High School. I'm just never physically attacked. Most people who don't go to bars looking for trouble aren't either. That's one of the first reasons most martial arts is bunk. There are almost no fights of that kind. Lots of young men get shot unfortunately but no kind of Kung Fu will protect you from a drive by shooting.
Martial Arts is bunk but that doesn't mean it's not real. I matched up once against the visiting US Olympic Judo Team in class. Those guys could do stuff I couldn't even see coming. But of course they had had more than six credits in judo. The first reason Martial Arts is bunk is that the world is too peaceful. The second reason is that in order to actually be any good you have to do it a lot. The English archers at Agincourt had practiced with the longbow since they were children. The same is true of any real skill at Judo, Karate or Kung Fu. I was the best heavyweight in my classes because i knew I could never master all those different moves and throws. I only practiced one - the osoto gari (doubtful spelling. I could never have used it in a real fight but it was enough to win a medal. My classmate opponents were all mediocre at many throws. I was good at one.
Martial Arts just doesn't make any sense in the real world. You can beat up attackers only if you are attacked - which seldom happens to whites and even less so to Asians. Almost all real attackers these days are armed. You would have done better to have gotten a job, earned some money and buy a gun for yourself. Then too being half trained in a Martial Art is worth nothing. If you aren't really good and have practiced for years it's probably more dangerous to employ half assed Kung Fu than to just brawl as best you can. Most of these arts were historically developed in periods and cultures where street fighting was common. Read the Autobiography of Bevenuto Cellini or watch Romeo and Juliet. The Italian Renaissance was very, very violent. All men carried knives, all who could afford it carried swords. There were schools of fencing and unarmed styles that you need to know just to walk on the street. Men learned self defense (Martial Arts. Today it's like that in the black ghettos of Chicago. But with guns. If you are a black teen in Chicago and want to defend yourself, forget learning Kung Fu. You won't live long enough to learn enough for it to be useful. Get a gun like all your enemies already have.

In America, we are the ones who use things to mark our successes - diploma, degrees, and so on. But martial arts are rather secretive with the exception of American martial arts. The reason for this is because it hints people to challenge you because they feel you feel they're better than them(jealousy/ envy) by not wearing the belt, it keeps you secretive. I've often been told that there was a time that one was to speak on their affiliation with the martial arts to people outside of family, the monks were(I don't know if they still are) strict on that.

The belt system in the martial arts started with the birth of judo. Prior to that, there were no blackbelts. My Uncle Keiji in Japan trained in the original Kodokan, starting back in the early 1920's. And since those days, the belt system has evolved. Heck, when I started training in Goju Ryu as a child in Okinawa back in the 1950's, the belt progression went from white - green - brown - black. To me, the belt system has no meaning. What does, is mastery of oneself regarding the arts, the physical body and the mind.

Saying they don't even have a black belt, especially with the tone you took is pretty insulting. I've known 12yr olds with a black belt, it's not an indication of power or anything like that, it's solely a symbol of knowledge and proper application of a single form, and it's the first one.
Maybe you corrected yourself after that statement, but once you spit in someone's face, don't expect them to keep listening.

If Eve Torres got promoted to Purple Belt in 2016, it's hard to believe, she isn't at least a brown belt by now. I'd think as the wife of Renner Gracie, she'd be doing BJJ on a daily basis and therefor 4 years could actually be enough to gain the black belt level.
Tho I can't find any information on her current belt level.

Important to know Chinese lineage doesn't have the belt system the way we're used to. What we have is a trademark of Japanese Karate grading systems, so if all you do is pick Chinese actors who studied Chinese Martial Arts, of course they don't have a Black Belt: )

Having a black belt in martial arts only means that you have met the requirements in your discipline and tasks. It doesn't mean you're an unbeatable fighter. Many MMA world champions don't have a balck belt but they can sure beat just about anyone they face

At least with belt systems you take some tests. isn't that better than no tests at all. sure, someone who hasn't studied in a few years wouldn't pass the CPA exam again, but at least you took and passed it once.

Who gives a shit they can fight. Do your history, there is no such thing as belts in traditional kung fu, it was only brought in to give westerners incentives to progress further in the art of martial arts
