Dangling plot threads and dumb decisions. Avatar: The Way of Water is gorgeous, epic, and moving, but these plot holes prove it isn't perfect. David: Idk why but I realised this almost instantly while watching the movie, how does the Metkayina clan know how to speak english so fluently if not at all? Only some of the Omaticaya clan knew how to speak english in the first film and that was solely because of Grace's school, and it's explained and explored this way in the first film. But somehow the Metkayina clan that was so far away from the Omaticaya clan knew how to speak fluent English, and they don't explain once how this is. Saying it would have been too difficult for the clan to speak their own language and to have subtitles for the entirity of the film seems like a stretch so i'm rlly confused as to why James Cameron decided to go this route instead. Massive plot hole imo

Am I the only one on the planet that wished Cameron actual wrote an interesting saga storyline, instead of doubledown on the 'oh, its movie #2 so lets bring in the marines and more guns' trope. This is so over played and overdone since the days of the Alien franchise which is so well known for this exact same story. Just pack it up, add a friendly alien who like to swim a lot. and you have a repeat of Aliens.
What else? Now theres a new resource (whale brain stuff) that some corporate overlord realise they want. and off goes the writers.
Dont write anything interesting, just stick to the basics of what sold in the past for action movies; guns, he-man military bravado and corporate greed.
THATS what sells movie seats. Idiots.
Avatar was a chance to take a successful first film, spend a few years kicking up the effects. and while they were at it, write a real saga. but no. we got formulaic trope. Shame, I was looking forward to this.

I do not pay for the IMAX 3D for all that Dramatic Dimension bullhist. For me, it was actually smart to keep the plot simple enough to understand what it is all about, what is the quest of the hero, who are the bad guys and why should we care what happens to them. This movie was meant to be enjoyed visually and you do not want an overcomplicated plot that will distract you from that. For me I was wowed from start to finish. Every frame looked awesome and that was more than enough.
Heck, I did not hear anybody complaining about dramatic dimensions in MCU movies.

My biggest plot hole is in the third act when Jake and the water tribe are fighting the colonel and his soldiers, after the initial attack we don t see any of the water tribe again til the end of the movie, initially I didn t know if they had been killed off screen or what happened to them since none of them were there to help Jake as the ship was sinking. I understand the focus here was on family but still seemed somewhat odd

The recom's weren't trying to go undercover as Navi. As the new commander had stated, the wildlife would attack after 10 minutes whenever they went to the Hallelujah mountains. The idea was that the wildlife would see the recom's as indigenous and not attack and that worked.
It also gave us Quaritch's Outstanding line when the only way they could test that was the hard way.

For me, the one plothole I couldnt understand was the meaningless of hostages. Mr bad guy had multiple hostages, 2-3 separate times. When Jake attacks, instead of just pointing a gun and saying stop it or ill shoot he just lets the reacue attempt play out, twice. In the third time (i believe) it makes sense since its an exchange, but the first two are just nonsense

It was awesome and truthfully, it makes sense as to why they would go after Jake, it s the same reason the US went after bin Laden would it kill the movement? No, but it would deal a massive blow to the Navi moral. Also if you watched the movie they had scouts that reported Jake was no longer with the forest group if I remember correctly

it's so funny people say the story is weak with plot holes yet the amount of knowledge you'd need and the mouthfuls you'd have to utter just shows how vast and deep the lore and world building is. it's soooo detailed and immersive it's amazing. the plot holes aren't enough to damage it on the whole

10 seconds would be the limit duration if human fully breath the Pandora's air, said Spider.
But in the first movie, we could see that Quaritch was holding his breath all along before he received the mask.
1 minute hold breath is not a problem for marine, tho.

The whole plot in the first film was for the humans to invade pandora and obtain Unobtanium and they completely ditched this idea. I don't even remember them mentioning it at least once. Biggest plot hole for me. Didn't make any sense imo

It's not just killing Jake, it's killing Toruk Makto and in Na'vi lore Toruk Makto is the mightiest warrior able to unite clans and lead them to war, killing him would be the second worst thing to do after destroying the tree of souls

Is there a reason for no orbital bombardment or no jets dropping bombs from a safe distance way up high? These humans are cartoonishly evil/grimderp that I'm pretty sure they'll ignore that the Geneva Convention exist.
reply

I don t think that they would have needed to explain why the recoms could breathe the Pandora air since the Avatars from the first movie could breathe the air just fine and are anatomically Na vi, just like the recoms.

For those who already watched the film I noticed that when Jake ask the reef avatars to leave their village and that's the last we see the reef avatars and the rest of the film is just watching Jake and his family

I've got news for everyone: it's a work of fiction. It is not based on true events and did not really happen.
Hard to believe but that's just the way it is. Deal with it and move on with your lives.
