Are you really sure for what you are commenting on? You are thinking only from the perspective of a non-indigenous people, that makes you hard to believe the story of Avatar in the first place.
Go spend some time with some indigenous people and you will see how they respect their ancestor's belief passed on to them. Especially those who have never really been influenced by so called modern education.
There is much to learn about the sustainable use of land and natural resources from indigenous people.
They co-exist with the land they live in for generations and not exploit and deplete them like we do, unfortunately, for economical gains.
