Dismal reviews? Bad word-of-mouth? Or was this historical epic just a little too epic in length? Here's why Babylon bombed, and bombed big, at the box office. Charles: Waaay better than Amsterdam. That film was a total mess. I enjoyed Babylon, but went in with low expectations because of the mixed reviews. Had some really good scenes, and mentioning Wolf of Wall St. as the assistant director that loses it was also in that film. Also had a laugh with Margot Robbie sharing scenes with Samara Weaving (from Ready or Not, who looked a lot like her.

Havnt people figured out that if they say the budget for a film was 110million, or another film cost 200million or even 20milllion at the other end of tthe spectrum. thats not how much it actually costs.
One example; major production companies (say Lionsgate or Paramount or Sony) need to budget to rent cameras so lets say their accounting shows that it cost 10million to rent the equipment to make the movie. If you called an outside company with a list to rent all that equipment, you might get a contract budget of 10K a day at most, for the largest of productions, maybe even 20K.
A far cry from 10million. Lets discuss why.
Now lets learn that very same company listed above as responsible for the movie, by way of subsidiary actually OWNS the camera rental company. Now they can assign whatever exploded price they want to. as they are renting it to themselves 'Oh. cameras are 0. 5million a day. Explode this concept for every direct cost to make a film and the number soars quickly to the over 100million costs.
Why do they do this? Creative accounting diredcted towards tax deductions carefully constructed to eliminate taxes via deductions. Whatever they say it costs to 'make a film' is a tax expense, which they get back on their taxes. In other words, the govt literally pays them to make movies, which end up at the end of the day to be next to free.
Movie and TV making companies simply dont pay corporate income tax. none. zero. nada single penny. and this is how.
Major movie star contracts and even company crew costs dont really work that way as the papertrail shows what they actually make. That says, when you hire Brad Pitt for a movie, you dont hire Brad Pitt, you contract with his production company that provides Brad on set. He costs 30million. and just as above, he has overblown company costs as well. negating his income tax as well by way of deductions.
Remember that when you hear another story about how much a movie costs to make. no it didnt, its a lie.
Your taxes paid for it anyway.

You can t catch a movie on for one bad week because after a while the movies can I get good and positive Ward Melville, mouth of it and people will actually want to go see it and plug the movie for them so I know how good or how wonderful movie was war is going to be or whatever egg training to be good blow job in a little bit but that s what some movies are these days and some people have to work with it to make it better for everybody to fully enjoy and you you have to review it for yourself because if you review it for you self and you see it is a good thing it will actually help other people to see it as a good thing but don t force it just the the negative reviews are forcing negative opinions of the movie in peoples heads without fully processing what the movie has to say that but I m saying you gotta go after the people don t like movies like this to bring people back to the day more movies were like the wild West black in the day and this movie is kind of what everybody kind of want to see if you know what type of audience is craving for it

Saw it completely blind.
it's a little late to the party as people are going to compare it to Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, even if the tone ends up different.
That first opening scene needed to be cut they shot way too much footage. Movie picked up there and had some great scenes, but for every 2 great scenes there was one that felt tacked on or redundant.
The soundtrack was pretty good even if they used that one part a couple times too many Margo Robbie is often the weakest part of the film since her character is kind of cliche and predictable.

If it s not action packed it should go straight to streaming and on demand so far no historical movie in the age of streaming has done extremely well at the box office that should tell Hollywood that people don t want to see them in theaters and that these movies should be relegated to streaming and on demand where they ll do much better every movie doesn t need to be in theaters to be successful.

Normal people dont see Hollywood movies anymore. Hollywood has become a haven for far left alt left fascist extremists. Its not safe to go to the movies anymore. Modern movies are made to create and spread mental illness. Im not Christian but I dont know what other word than to say that Hollywood has become satanic. Most people dont want that in their lives.

Most headlines I read about this movie are that Margot Robbie's new movie bombed or Another bomb or setback for Margot Robbie like they're persistent that it's her fault the film bombed. You never hear Brad Pitt's new movie bombed it's mostly always the female lead that takes the bullet for a film performing poorly at the boxoffice. Just saying.

A movie about a bunch of blue people swimming is also 3hrs long and it s already passed 1B
It s crazy honestly
The movie seems to have very bad writing and the only thing getting people to go is the fact that it s a sequel to the highest grossing movie ever and the new visuals are intriguing enough to sit through

Probably also because the word Babylon is a scary word. It's associated with massive city of sin. A movie gloryfing the name of sin city isn't appealing when people are seeing signs of the end of the world. Christians aren't interested to see this. And non christians are scared too. They'd rather watch avatar or something.

Long story short? Okay. The Spanish actor that no one knows, or cares about, delivers a bland performance and Margo Robbie's fifteen minutes are up. She's always been kind of overrated. Finally, you just don't release your movie, when something like Avatar is released at the same time.
reply

4: 30 Then again, releasing a movie alongside a literal Blockbuster that is Avatar: The Way of Water is already doomed to fail, just imagine the amount of people flocking to the theaters.
logically i would wait it out until the hype for Avatar dies THEN that's where you release Babylon

reply

Why did it do badly? Simple, because I have no idea what the movie is about in trailer. People aren't going to see the movie if they have no idea what it is. It looks like to me it just some boring Hollywood movie time piece that no one cares about or can related to.

When taking on an epic book, if you can t do it justice in 2 hours - make it two parts. I d rather see the complete vision over time than a jumbled mess over three hours.
Also the marketing of this movie wasn t great. I didn t even realize it was out yet.
