Original Night Court Fans Aren't Holding Back About The Reboot

What's the verdict on the new Night Court? According to critics and fans of the original series, watching it is a pretty hard time. Jeffrey: Right off the bat, it suffers from black actress syndrome. If you're matronly and a black actress, you'll always find work. If you look downright WEIRD, like the police chief in Robocop, Blind Spot or Wong's friend in Dr. Strange 2, If you're a young black starlet, you're lucky to find work as an extra. There are certainly exceptions, but the Last Action Hero rules about women being eye candy historically has rarely applied to the black actress. They try to be real with black actresses, but the problem is, the average black woman I work with, or live with, is actually PRETTIER than the average black woman on television for as long as I can remember. Again, there are exceptions, but the rule is unmistakable.

So I'm a hard-core fan of this show. In preparation for the premiere I even went to imdb to read all the reviews to get any glimpse of the reception. It was the 3rd episode apparently where it really starts to take off, so I don't have any real grievance with the first 2. I have been longing for some Fielding schemes and some surreal situations so I just hope that it at least gets a second chance from the fans. We need this kind of humour these days, it would be a complete failure if it was facing cancellation because of the first 2. it's got to get better, I admit the opening wasn't great but give the cast a chance please!
Some of the funniest moments in 80s television and the best idea for a sitcom ever. My favourite scene was when we see Harry T. Stone talking to a defendant saying 'Now I personally love a puppet show, but I have to draw the line somewhere! '
We then see the defendant with a little theatre constructed around his waist with curtains over his junk. so wrong, but that's New York in the 80s.

I watched Night court as a kid and it was my favorite show, been re watching it as an adult and its hilarious with all the adult jokes I get now. When I saw this reboot/ continuation I was not having it. The gender swap judge and it looked like it was trying to hard etc. I saw the first episode and I really wanted to hate it, but I laughed and actually didn't mind the gender swap judge she did ok. I think they need to find the footing and in a retelling reboot. which is always hard because you need to honor the past, while making it your own. I liked it, just hope it doesn't get political and or preachy and it should be good!

I absolutely HATED the lead character. Idk why they went with the overly perky Mary Sue trope. I found her to be too perky and annoying. There are ways of doing the overly optimistic character without her being that annoying, just look at Genean on Abbott Elementary. I liked the rest of the cast, but I couldn t take very much of that judge. I gave it a shot, but I won t be watching it.

People are comparing the new show to their _memories_ of the old show. In reality there were plenty of stinker episodes in the original series. The entire seventh season was pretty bad! Really ridiculous of people to judge this new incarnation so quickly - all of these internet comments sound like people who haven't actually watched Night Court in many years.

Harry Stone is 34 (the younges the first season of Night Court.
Which means Harry was born in 1950. Melissa Rauch is 42, born in 1980, making Harry 30 when she was born, how is this far fetched? Just because he never mentioned having any children doesn t make it impossible, maybe he didn t know about her existence until after the show ended.

I was a huge fan of the original growing up. I was 8 when it went off the air but I always loved the show. This reboot continuation idea looked and sounded horrible from the beginning all of the trailers and clips looked unfunny and the laugh track made the jokes seemed forced and even more unfunny. If it ain t broke don t fix it.

The problem with fans of the original is they go in expecting the same show. All reboots are different shows. I remember the first and second seasons of the original and how rough they were but it became my favorite show from the third season on. I went into the new show not expecting the original and am willing to give it a chance.

Having watched the original with my family as scheduled must see. the reboot was entertaining. You really have to watch it with a blank slate. I think the critics expected a step back in time for the reboot. If such was expected, then the critics should watch the original. Let everyone enjoy the reboot without their criticism.

I watched the first 2 episodes. I would still give it a chance to find its groove. John s character is the strongest they ve got at the moment but even his has changed as the character has evolved to a 75 year old. Without the original actors, it s not going to be the same show as 35 years ago.

In my opinion, those who don't like the new Night Court have never watched Big Bang Theory, and are unfamiliar with Melissa Rauch's comic genius. It takes time, people, give it a chance.
I'm sorry, but Harry can't be there anymore. RIP Harry, we miss ya buddy.

It had some promise. It needs to find its groove. I think if they could get Brent Spiner to do a cameo and have Bull show up for an episode or two. It would help it a lot. Get the a writer or two from the original series might help with the pace and tone issues.

I think getting more of the original cast would help. How about Bull, Richard Moll, and Marsha Warfield. They helped make the show too. I think the rest of them are gone. I loved that show growing up.
