Heres part of our Top 10 Hauntingly Beautiful Songs! These songs are ethereal, moody and evoke that feeling of nostalgia we all long for. Weve included songs such as Hide and Seek from Imogen Heap, Uninvited by Alanis Morissette, Running Up That Hill by Placebo, Everybody Hurts by R. E. M, Wicked Game by Chris Isaak, Orinoco Flow (Sail Away) by Enya and My Immortal by Evanescence

Why is it when an original song by Kate Bush is mentioned it's always the cover that gets the credit? This woman deserves far more credit than she ever gets, at least here in America. Yes, Maxwell's cover of 'This Woman's Work' is fabulous but it will never compare to her version especially if you listen to it while watching She's Having a Baby. If that doesn't make you cry then you may need to check to see if you're a cyborg. And sorry, but Placebo's version of 'Running Up That Hill is sub-par compared to Kate's. That's my opinion & obviously it's one that never matches Ms. Mojo's.

Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead. The Scarlet Tide from Alison Krauss. Human by Christina Perri. The Blower's Daughter by Damien Rice. True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. Christofori's Dream by David Lanz. Never Tear Us Apart by INXS. Towerblock by Julia Fordham. You need a 3rd list!

y'all need to listen to fingers crossed by certain seas, it's by a group local to me and that song is incredible. i first heard it on the night my uncle died and now it means so much since it calmed me down so well in a very stressful time for my family.

This isn't hauntingly beautiful, but still worth a mention for those who haven't heard it or forgot it. Since Amy Lee is on here, I thought I'd mention Broken by Seether w/ Amy Lee. It's really powerful, I always love that one.

Anything by Enya. yes, please! And I loooooove My Immortal! Not big on any other of Evanescences music, but ADORE that song! I also have loved Uninvited by Alanis Morissette from the start! Ive never even seen City of Angels!

From Secret Garden, Sigur Ros, Portishead, Cocteau Twins, Marianne Faithful, Radiohead, to Tory Amos or even Mad World by Gary Jules there is SO much missing here. I don't even know where to start
reply

Don't forget hello by evanescence. I don't know what it means the story but it's sad. Hello could be sadder because if you listen to the words you will understand why it is a tie with my immortal
reply

No Enigma in either list? Gravity of Love, Sadness, Return to Innocence? All of those are very hauntingly beautiful in my opinion. Oh yeah, and how could I forget Is this Real by Lisa Hall?
reply

it was always my understanding that Nights in White Satin was about soldiers coming home in Satin lined boxes. Never reaching the end letters are written never meaning to send.

Smashing Pumpkins: Eye
Cowboy Junkies: Sweet Jane
Garbage: #1 Crush
Q Lazarus: Goodbye Horses
Glass Candy: Digital Versicolor
Soundgarden: Hands All Over

I would have put HELLO - Evanescense In first place for most haunting
but with Evanescense you have a lot of choices
Hello
My Immortal
Lithium
etc.

Both enya and Amy lee have ethereal vocals in their music.
And Running up that Road, listen to it with good quality headphones, the chills are surely to come

The most hauntingly beautiful song I've ever heard is called Half Acre by Hem. When you listen to it, you can close your eyes and literally feel it in your soul.
reply

The Bengsons: Lift Me
The Civil Wars: The One That Got Away
Hozier Live Sessions: It Will Come Back
Yo Yo Ma/ Kathryn Stott: Tango Jalousie

I could never articulate what Placebo's version of Running Up That Hill disturbed me until this list summed it up. I love it but it unsettles me.
reply

Orinoco Flow? Whats haunting about that? Her May It Be wouldve been a much better choice. Amy in My Immortal is the epitome of haunting.
reply

Totally agree with number one. Totally disagree with the version shown/heard. The one without the band is far superior in my opinion.
reply

I didn't have time to read the title or the account publishing this. I saw Amy Lee's face and I clicked at an inhumane speed.
reply

Ok ik its not a sad song but You Know Your Right by Nirvana cos it was the last song before he died or Something in the a way
reply

I feel like 'Pyramid song' by Radiohead should have been on one of these lists. And any of Loreena McKennits songs as well
reply

Nothing Compares 2U - Sinnead O'Connor, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Sounds of Silence, Hallelujah, I could go on for days.
reply

Safe and sound by Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars should be in this list even though i am not a fan of that song.
reply

I think you just keep adding your own favourites without caring about the songs that actually deserve to ne there
reply

The Spanish cover version of 'Crying' & the covers of the power of love & sound of silance are amazing
